Died tn the Hospital.
Yesterday morning,abuut 9 o'clock,
att eld colored’ gentleman, who was
dniversally ktiown ‘hereabouts as
Commodore Perry departed _ this
life. He was at the time of his
* ‘death about 74 years of age, and had
., been @.resident ofthis city since
~~ 1851. He was a full blooded negro
and full of eccentricities. He was.a
gréat favorite with the pédple of this .
city and died respected by: all. In
early dayshe wasa useful man to
our people, and his eccentricities
brought hirn into general notice.
When he became too old and decrepid
__to earn his livelihood he was sent to
the Hospital. During his ‘stay
there he was treated in the kindest
manner imaginable by Drs, Haunt &
bs Welch and the nurses ofthe institution, 2
Commodore Perry Boardley was a
native of Maryland, and born a
slave, After serving’ his master
many years, he bought his own and
. family's freedom, and then removed .
with them to New Bedford, Mass,
where he continued to reside till the
year 1851, when he removed tv this
State. We understand hs leaves-a
family of seven children to mourn
his loss. His funeral-will take place’ 5

New Furniture.
We noticed yesterday a large lot
of elegant furniture standing iu front
of-the-furniture store of J. E. Johnston, on Commercial street. Among
the lot was a dozen or fifteen bedsteads, some~eight or ten elegant
‘ spri ttrasses and a magnificent
rset. Oninquiry we learned
Ahat the whole lot was going to North
San Juan to decorate the rooms of
Schmidt, The goods went over yes_terday.

K. Casper Says,
What horrid deed is this. you have
done! You are sacrifteing the goods,
and that is what is the matter at the
Clothing store, corner. of “Pine and
Comméefeial streets. Casper is determined that no one shall go out of
his establishment without being satisfied that he ‘is closing out his immense stock of Clothing, Boots, Blan‘kets, Hats, etc.,before New Years, and . ’
the public will do well to attend to
his call. Such a sacrifice never was

Be on the Safe. Side; 2
We hold health and life by 2 frail tenure,
ability-would seem to argue a deficiency of
aia rains-of spring, the tropic heatof simmer, the malarious’ vapors of autumn, and
the paralyzing temperature of winter,
all inimical to those finely adjust:d and
sensitive pieces of mechanism we call our
bodies. Each season has its peculiar per,
ils, and the fall is perhaps as prolific of
dangerous disorders as any of them; for at
this season fevers and boweleomplaints are
apt to take an epidemic form. As a preventive of this class of diseases, Hostetter’s
Stemach Bitters cannot be teo warmly recommended. In it are combined five e&sential medical properties. It is @ tonic, at
pure and unde: aperient, mifd and
painless—an anti-bilious agent ofmarvelous efficacy, and a general regulating medi.
cine without an equsl inthe pharmacopoeia:
These five distinct Properties, operating .
together in perfect harmony, produce a
condition of thé system somewhat analagous to that brought about bya course of .
pugilistic training. In other words, as ju.
dicious phys: ca] training hardens the flesh,
ana Tenders it comparatively? fist proof, so
does this marvelous invigorant increase se the
_eapability of the organs of the body to resist. the more indirect and insidugas assaults of disease. It imparts new elasticity
and strength to the vital machinery, and
those who use it as, a preventive of inter.
mittent fever, ‘dysentery. diarrhea, dyspepsia, rheumatism. and other ailments com‘mon at this season, may walk fearless
through an atmosphere impregnated -with
the morbid elements which give rise to
those maladies.DRUGS!
