Installation of Officers—A Large Attendance anda Merry Time.
—
Last Friday will be long remembered by the ‘Good Templars of this
city and Grass Valley as one of the
most pleasant and enjoyable occasions
ever witnessed. Between forty and
fifty members of Sylvania Lodge, Grass
Valley, arrived shortly before eight
o’clock, and this number in addition to
Nevada Lodge conveniently filled the
spacious hall, which presented a scene
of life and merriment.. At 8:15 o’clock
the lodge was called to order by Chief
Templar Seaman and after some preliminary business had been transacted
there was initiation. Miss Lottie
Igeklin wasfound awaiting in the
ante 100m and was shown the mysterwas followed by a recess for congratulation. !
Upon being reassembled Grand
Chief Templar Walling, assisted by
Jas. Ledwich of Grass Valley as District Deputy Marshal, installed the
following as officers of Nevada Lodge
’ forthe ensuing term: P. C. T., Al.
Seaman: C. T., W. F. Englebright; V.
T., Miss Harriet Bailey; R. S., Milton
Houswell; Asst. Sec., Lottie Baker;
Fin. Sec., J. C. Dean; Treas., Mrs. C.

and Mrs. E. Brown.
“T Beg to be Excused,”

Solo, ‘‘Rock: Me to Sleep,” Mrs. O.

Remarks by P. C. T. James Ledwich and Mrs. Al. Burrows of Sylvania
Lodge. ‘
* Recitation, “‘Rienzi’s Address to the
Romans,” David Fitzgerald.
Solo, ‘‘Sailing,”?” Wm. Carlyon.
Remarks by Mamie Williams of
Donner Lodge, Truckee.
Recitation, ‘‘The Gambler’s Wife,’’ .
Elia Ivey.
Remarks by Grand Chief Templar
Walling.Upon the conclusion of. the above
programme all present were invited to
participate in a collation, which was
heartily indulged in by the hungry.
After this came singing and amusements of various kinds. Shortly after
midnight the happy throng disbanded
and thus ended one of the most noted
and enjoyable events of the season.
Both Nevada and Sylvania lodges are
in a flourishing condition, the former
having 130 members and the latter
144, and others are being initiated
every week. Nevada Lodge has received an invitation to attend an entertainment to. be giyen shortly by
Sylvania Lodge. It has been accepted
and no doubt a large delegation will
go down to “‘the valley” on that occasion.

his name was on the list was the only
answer given, but upon investigation the

picked up the wrong list and flogged all
the boys of the confirmation class.
