“NEVADA CITY, CAL.
LOCAL AFFAIRS.
ae Grand Demonstration,
There was a very large meeting.of ;
Republicans in this city on Tuesday
evening. They swarmed like locusts,
and were as enthusiastic as any
crowd we ever saw. The Grass Vulley delegation was immense. The
eo prdceession formed ,at the
depot and marched dewn Saucramento street, up Main;Commercial, Pine,
and Broad. Wtreets, “and passed the
resitience of N. P: Brown, on East
Broad street, where it countermarch—ed.down Broad to the—Plaza, up
Main, Commercial, Pine and Broad
* ‘streets again, to the Rink, where the
speaking took place, The line of
march was just a blaze of glory nearly the whole distance. ‘The town
was never as -brilliantly and tastily
illuminated. The sky was kept
brilliant with the display of fireworks fram different parts of the
city, Mantes was a perfect forest
of. flags, Chincs» lauteins and other
decorations. Colored 1 ghts, added
brilliancy to the scene. We cannetbegin to describe all the places that
were beautifully illuminated, in one
‘article. The demonstration was a
credit tothe people of Gras Vulley,
who came out in stich numbers, and
to the people of this city, who had .
everything so perfectly arranged.
It was the finest thing of the kirid’
vever seen here, and had to be seen
to be appreciated. Hon. John Swift
made a two hours’ speech at the’
Rink, and:opened to an audience of
at least two thousand people. The
meeting demoustrated the fact that
Republicans are numérous this year,
and are as evrnest and enthysiastic
as they were in 1864, Ti, looked rather dubious for Tilden, Hendricks and
tay-for-rum.~

Local Brevities.
Every Republican should resolve
himself into a committee of one to
seo that every Republican voter in.
his precinct comes out on the day of
election. Votes’ arg what decides a
campaign, and a full vote in this
county and State assures it to the
Lepublicans,
Get ready. for the demonstration
Monday night at Grass Valley. It
will close the campaign, and should
and will be a grand success.
If any one thinks the political pot
is not boiling, let him get into it and
see.
There are some splendid chuck
holes on Commercial street, where
the ends of the plauking are worn
off, and wagon wheels chuck themselves into a foot of mud,
Hon, Wm. Watt, Hon. Niles
Searls and A, B. Dibble will address
the people of this city at the Riuk,
on Saturday night. They will discass the Chinese question and its
pertinency, as an issue, in the present campaign,
Returned to Vote,
Quite a number of old residents
_ -of this place, who have been absent,
but who-have not acquired a residence elsewhere, are returning to
east their ballots for the Reformers,
the Patriots, the Statesmen and the
honest men, Hayes and Wheeler.
Benator Sargent will put his ballot
in, in the precinct of Nevada, bis old
home, and wliere he developed those
traits of character which have made
him known all over the nation. Rodney Wing has come over from Salt
Lake for the same purpose, and
Elijah Booth came all the way from
British Columbia to help to make
Hayes President. There are others
here, and more coming. Come on
gentlemen, you are working in a
good cause,
