He visited Los Angeles, San Bernardino and other towns to ascertain if a better place could be found
for business than Nevada City, and
has come to the conclusion that
there is not, and he will remain
here. Onthe train at Colton, Mr.
Powell met Mr. Jacobs, who resided
here for several months, and who is
now superintendent of a mine in
Arizona, ‘called the ‘“ Stonewall
Jackson.” Jacobs informed Mr.
Powell that the mine above referred to was in a mining district. about
60 miles north-west of florence,
and the last two weeks it was
worked it yielded $52,000. in silver.
