Attempr aT Stack Roppery.—An
Whsuccessful attempt was made to rob
Gregory & English’s stage, which runs
from Lake City to Moore’s Flat, on Mon.
day evenings This stage connects with
Gregory & English’s Eureka.stage—at}
Lake,City and carries passengers into
Moore’s Flat. On Monday a shipment
of $400 was made from -Marks & Co’s4
banking house in Lake City to. the’
‘banking house ‘of the same firm at
Moore’s Flat.. It-was placed in the express box, which consists of a chilled
iron safe locked with a combination
lock, inside of a wooden box, the latter
being also locked with a hasp and padlock. The stage was driven by McKinney, the only passenger being Kite
Robinson, of Eureka ‘South. About
half a mile east of the Back Bone House
on a slight rise in the road, a man came
out from the brush, and told the driver
to “stop and put his foot .on the brake,
or he would blow his d——d head off.”

and the robber replied, “I’m not after
you. I want that box.” The driver
told him to “wade in, if he thought he
‘could get it.” The robber wasdlone,
and armed with an eight inch revolver.
As soon asthe stage was stopped he
told the parties that he would kill the

and commenced work upon the express
box with a cold chisel. He succeeded
in cutting the hagp of the outer box and
worked sometinie at the inner one. The
driver said to him, “If you are going to
blow up that box let me get,down and
get my horses off.” _The robber replied_.

It is just the kind of weather that

about three-quarters of an hour, he got

CHEAP TRAVELING.— The North
American §,8. Co. is carrying passeners now at such extremely low rates
that it is about as cheap to go East as it
is to stayat home. They have a splendid new steamship to connect at Greytown with the Moses Taylor, which
leaves San Francisco, Dec. 5th. We

. FEAT oF A Rat.—On Monday night
a canary bird belonging to Ch. Frerrand
, was killed by a rat. The cage was sus
pended from the ceiling, over a table,
the distance from the table to the cage
have sprung from the table to the cage,
and forced himself through between the
wires.’ When Ferrand entered the
gallery the bird had been killed, and
partially eaten. No place could be seen
where the rat entered. Hé could not
get out and was killed by Mr. Ferrand.

This is to certify that in November last. I
had a very dangerous case of Croupin my family, and there not being a physician in town, I
was induced to try Mrs M. A. Ragsdale’s infallible cure for Croup, Patrid Sore Throat and
Scarlet Fever. The result was everything I
could desire. The patient was relieved in a
very short time and entirely cured in a few
days—-without any deleterious effect from the
medicine, or loss of strength to the patient.

families-of having a remedy at hand are my
