erin, ae x The Daily Transcript, Nevada City, California, Saturday, May 7, 1887. The Daily Transcript. CIRCULATES IN Nevada City, Grass Valley, Rough & Ready, Spenceville, North San Juan, French Cor-} ral, Sweetland, North Bloomfield, Moore's Fiat, Graniteville, Truckee, andevery oth er town of Nevada county; also in Placer and Sierra counties, at Sac raimento,. San Francisco—in fact, throughout jithe State “from Siskiyou to San Diego, frém the Si erra to the Sea.” ‘ Published Daily (Monday s excepted) by —BROWN & CALKINS-— OFFICE: } No 32 Commercial street, Nevada City, Cal. NOT WORTH IT. . = What the Guileless Grangers Have Paid) Sexey & Co. $100,000 For. A report made by C. E. Sexey, President-of the Anti-Debris Association, to . the advisory board of that body, shows that the Association has, since its formation, had injunctions issued against the following-named hydraulic mining companies. The number of cases against the defendants for contempt of court is shown by the figure after the name ofeach: Excelsior Water and Mining Company 1, Golden Gate 7, Eureka Lake 5, North Bloomfield 1, Milton 3, Blue Tent 3, Omega 4, Place . 2, Manzanita 3, Arnott 1, Indian. Hill 4, Cleveland and Sierra 2, Gray 1, Aplin 2, Hunt’s Hill 2, Alpha 3, Martin & Olson 2, Pioneer 1, Yuba Gravel . Range, Brockmeir’s mine, South Yuba . Water and Mining Company, South Feather Water Company and Ah Sam et al. There have been forty-eight cases of contempt in all, but thisis far short of indicating the number of dif; ferent dates upon which defendants, have violated injunciions. The Alpha suit includes twenty-nine different defendants in addition to the suitg above named. Sutter county has sued 113 hydraulic mining defendants on the Feathér river in-Plumas county. The report shows the total expenses to date to be over $96,000, besides a large amount paid out by other parties. Of the $96,000 over $53,000 was contributed by private parties and $35,000 by the various counties. The report contains the following : . . Santa Rosa, sustained a painful injury, ‘“‘We have got a new member of the Anti-Debris Association in that muchtalked of old gentleman Uncle Sam, whose agents have beén in consultation with your executive committee, whose suggestions and recommendations the government has thought proper to act on.”’ Jnformation on the Mining Industry. A competent mineralogist, acting under direction of the State Mining Bureau, will shortly visit this locality for the purpose of examining the gold lodes and veins hereabout and determining the true condition of the gold _.in the quartz, pyritic matter, specular irém;.talcose slate and other gangues or matrices. The Mining aud Scientific Press says: Particular attention will be given to the investigation of the occurrence of ‘‘pay shoots” and “pay pipes”’ in the different lodes, arid the character of the inclosing”rocks following the inclination of the pay shoots, and those going down with the pay pipes will be determined both macroscopically and microscopically. By so doing, ft is hoped that a simple guide or.pointer may be furnished to the niiner to direct his operations. Many very different rocks present the “same appearance to the naked eye, but when sections are cut from them and placed under the microscope, their true character is plainly to be seen. The great importance of these investigations cannot be overrated, in proof of which it may be said, that had the Eureka Company understood the pay shoot matter they would have been some millions of dollars richer instead of allowing the Idaho Company to have it. 2-2 @eWho Is Geo. 8. Johnson? Eprror Traxscrret—The miners of this section are very anxious to find out who is Geo. 8. Johnson, the fellow who has been recently writing letters from Dutch Flat to the Sacramento Record-Union exposing the hydraulic miners. Is he a mining spy or is he a traitor in the camp of the miners. He is surely one or the other. Ifa traitor, he deserves a good liberal coat of tar and feathers; if a spy, not quite so much tar and more feathers, with a short ride on a rail. Thereisa growing feeling up this way among all the people in general that. the system of espionage upon the miners shall cease. If not by fair means foul will be resorted to. It has been charged that Seth Martin was the author of the Dutch Flat letters. Now Seth is pretty mean in some things, especially in politics; but Ido not believe: that he is a traitor to the miners. Cuas. McE;vy. Diamond Creek, May 2, 1887.. A Free Road Wanted.
