IDENTIFIED.—The highwayman who was killed by a Chinaman a day or two since near the Anthony House, on the Marysville road, has been identified, says . the National, as one G. M. Friederichs, a _ man who was about*town for three or four . : It seems that f weeks prior to that time. Friederichs was an old hand on the road, he having carried on-that business in Oregon, Idaho and ‘the upper country for’ sev. eral years past. The officers were posted on the gentlemen, but he gave them no chance to arrest him, Friederichs is the man who lost his pocket book about three weeks ago, and when he shuffled off this mortal coil, stood indebted to this office in the amount of $5 for advertising the same, which we suppose we willnever get. He alleged that the pocket book contained several large checks, and offered a large reward for its recovery, but when it was found, the checks were wanting. We presume that he made the representation in regard to the checks in order to excite the sympathy of his fridnds, so that he could: borrow money from them. A New CEMETERY.—W. GC. Pope, of Grass Valley, has just completed a new cemetery, which is situated about a half mile west of that town, over Main street hill. It is enclosed with a good fence, and the principal avenues, which are 40 feet wide, are to be graveled. Water priv’leges are abundant for beautifying graves, , and ornamental trees and shrubbery are to be planted by Mr. Pope along the walks. It is called Greenwood Cemetery, and will be open as a receptacle for the dead on the 18t Of January, 1867. Tue Drkectory.—Assessor Bean is mak ing rapid progress with his Directory, and a namber of good writers are engaged upon the historical part of the work. We understand that the first hundred pages . will soon be sent to the printer. SunpDay Schoo. Exursirion.—The Con _ gtegational Sunday School is engaged in preparing for an exhibition, which we understand, will be given at the Theatre in this city, at an early day. The object is to ‘Yaise money to supply the library with new books. New MiL1.—George 8S. Pierce has just completed a ten stamp quart2 mill for the . : Eagle Company, at Grizzly Canon, near the Magenta flume. The mill was built’ and started within three weeks. The Company have a large amount of rock out, and will soon have a return from their mine. The Eagle Company owns six or eight ledges in the vicinity of its rill. BLUE LEAD.—The Gouge Eye Company at Hunt's: Hill, cleaned up $1,200 on _ Saturday, after four and a half days run.— They have a fine body of cement in sight in the new tunnel. Another rich strike -has been made in the claims ‘of Heydliff & Co. They are ~~ said to be running on one of the richest streaks ever found on the Blue Lead. — COLLECTION oF TAxES.—The amount of State and county taxes paid to County Collector Barker, up to Monday night, will reach over $50,000. On Monday the receipts of the office were $19,134 88. THE MonapDNock:—From the Monadnock lead, located at Palmer’s mill, they have out about fifty tons of excellent rock. The ledge inthe incline is looking fine and as soon as they have out a hundred tons of rock they will commence crushing. The first crushing from this mine paid well, —. aa LAMARTINE, although, the largest size charity boy in Europe, gives very excellent ‘The beverages are excellent old ux wine from the t’s estate, a little Bordeaux, a little champagne and with the dessert a glass of admirably perfumed rus wine, which he brought from the East in 1832.
