Copies are available at BLM District Offices where there are also specialists who can answer your questions. The current regulations are: — 43 CFR 3802 governs mining in wilderness study areas. — 43CFR3809 regulations for surface protection of all other BLM land. — Off-road vehicle regulations also affect mining activities. Do I need a permit to mine from BLM? If you plan to mine in a BLM wilderness study area, you will probably need a BLM permit and to comply with Part 43 of the Code of Federal Regulations, section 3802. Copies are available from BLM. Department of the Interior, is responsible for the conservation, management, and development of 337 million acres of public lands (20 percent of the land area of the United States and 60 percent of all federally owned lands).
