More than is required to effect the incorporation of the railroad company has been secured, but it is desired to obtain a full representation of dil the business’ interests of Grass Valley and Nevada, and for that! object the preliminary meeting has been appointed for Wedmesday next, as will be seen by notice elsewhere. Until that time, all who ubscribe will bé-emtitled to participation in the selectiom of temporary offi«ers. Citizens of Grass Valley can se«cure stock on application to A. Delano, and citizens of Nevada may apply to John Pattison. ' No enterprise has been started in this county in which citizens so heartily co-operate as in this railroad project. No urging has been required, but a simple statement of the object of the organization. Many others are ‘willing , and apxious to be identified with a movement which all feel confident will result in such great benefit to the county. \ The following is the list with the amounts subscribed by citizens of Nevada City and Grass Valley : R. From what has been already done since Saturday morning, our people may judge of the probability that the work will-be accomplished, The most sanguine expectations of those who led offin the matter have thus far been more than realized, Let the people of . . both towgs unite in support of the project, and the railroad will soon be & reality. The meeting te be held on Wednesday evening will effect a temporary orgavigdtion, and then the Treasurer will call upom stockholders for ten per cent of the amount, subspribed,) After this amount is paid in, the. Treasurer is required by law to certify to the fact, . and then the permanent organization of the Company will be immediately effected and it*will be ready tor work. This undoubtedly will result in building up every description of business in the comuiunity, and will be of incalcu_ lable value to the county, and we rejoice that so much has already been done. Let the work be carried forward with energy; end Nevada county will soen have a railroad. The care of these agente is solicitous and shielding only till the douceur has been paid, and the victim is landed in Castle Garden. As soon as the authorities here are’ done with him, he wanders out into the streets of the great city to be quickly pounced upon by thesharpers who have awaited his coming, If he escapes being entirely fleeced he is peculiarly for tunate. From New York, with diffi culty he makes his way, hindered by the annoyance of the ignorance of our language and customs, to his intended destination. -Now the Indianapolis Convention is called to remedy this difficulty. It is proposed that its dele~. gates shall devise some plan by which the United States government extend its protection to the emigrant from the time the vessel he is on enters our wa" ters until he reaches ‘his’ new homeNew York has nothing to do, or should have nothing to do with emigrants to the West, and any fees which are extracted from them are so many items of well defined robbery. Instead of using Castle Garden, infamous on account of its iniquities, the government should provide a place on One of its islands in New York harbor. From thence com. missioners could quietly {forward the new citizen to his destination without exposing him for‘an ‘instant to the intrigues of the New York rogues. We have no doubt that the convention will be largely attended, and that its action will be observed with Very great interest.
