It will be remembered that Wood's store, on Mill street, was entered from the front and robbed of $3,500 worth of cloth and some clothing made up for customers. It was at first supposed white men committed the robbery, but it has since been ascertained by Hank Dawley that Ohinamen were the perpetrators. He obtained information which led to the arrest ef Ah Quoy, and DawJey and another man brought him to . Nevada and took him down Deer reek, where the goods were supposed to be concealed, but all their efforts failed t induce Ah Quoy to tlt anything. He ‘‘no sabe”’ all the time. They had him tied up ino tunnel, securely as they supposed, and were hunting for the goods. On itheir return Ab Quoy was gone. On last Thursday officer Snow arrested him the secend time and worked with him several days but without avail. Qn Monday Snow, Dawley, and Jones, who had for several days been working the matter up, again started te work.’ They took the Chinaman with them and went some three miles down Deer creek, making thorough. search, but without success, They reached Grass Valley towards night, and determined . . tomake one more effort to compel the Chinaman to confess the crime.
