SWEETLAND SCHOOL,
First grade, is taught” by C, L.
Brown, and has fifty-seven pupi!s of
six different grades, making"the care
of it quite a burden, The school‘house has been painted up lately, inside and out, and is the attraction of
the village.The room is very large,
well ventilated, and neatly fur:.ished.
An organ leads in vocal music, A
bell from a@ fine cupalo calls the children to school.
SEBASTOPOL SCHOOL,
First grade, taught by J. Parr, has
thirty-two pupils. This school hasa
bell and belfry. 1
is a fine piece of joiner work, and 18
farnished with improved desks. The
grounds are ample and admitof good
drainage. There are about five
grades in the school.
First grade, ia taught by Geo. E.
Robinson, and contains four grades
whom are in the, advanced grade.
This school has one of the finest and
largest libraries in the county, and
iswell equipped in every respect,
NORTH SAN JUAN PRIMARY,
Comprises the three lower grades,
numbering fifty-seven pupils taught
by Miss Sadie Russell. It was
quite a treat—te—enter this school
from the snowy wintry landscape

the warm sunshine streaming in, the

Land League Meeting.
The Michael Davitt Branch of the
Land League met at their Mall in
this city on Monday evening. John
Dunnicliff presiding. The hall was
crowded as usual, Thirty-one new
mew names were added to the roll
and $41.75 received during the évening. Speeches were made by Rev.
Father Welsh of Cherokee, Hon. W,
D. Long, G. D. Blakey, T. H. Carr
and others, Recitations and songs
were interspersed during the meeting. The membersnip of the organization is now 204, The next regular monvhly meeting of the Branch
will be held on Saturday evening,
December 3d. An interesting progamme is being prepared.
Coal for Forest City.
The Bald Mountain Drift Mining
Company have already laid in one
hundred tons of coal to feed their locomotive and forges on this winter,
and within a couple of days there
has arrived fifty tons more that
should have been here last June, but
was delayed. Thia last lot will be
transported by wagons to its, desti‘nation this week. Had it reached
this point before the storms it could
have been hauled to the mine for a
bad condition of the roads has increased the cost about halfa cent a
