yesterday afternoon, was largely attended by eitizéns of Grass . Valley andNevada. On motion of A. Delano, of
_ Grass Valley, Judge Niles was elected
President and M. 8. Deal Secretary.
Judge Niles, on taking the chair, briefly stated the object of the meeting, aad
concluded by ‘saying, the only business
to céme before the meeting properly
was the selectiog-of « Treasurer. On
motion, A. Delano of Grass Valley was
unanimously-elected,
On motion it was voted that ‘the
Treasurer immediately collect 7 per
¢ent. of the amount subscribed.
On motion of Wm. Watt the amount
assessed. was made payable on.or before Saturday, November 25th, and the
Treasurer ‘was requested to call anether meeting five days after the
amount was paid, to complete the organization, a.
After this. business, suggestions and
ezinions in regard to the best. route
were. advanced by Messrs. Delano,
Watt, Cashin, Gregory, Deal, Kent,
Sigourney, Oates, Niles and others.
In alf of the remarks the railroad
project was favored. Nearly all of
them suggested, as the best plan, that
a thorough canvass of the advantages
and cost of each route before fully determining where to make the terminus,
‘We are glad to see in this meeting a
unanimity of action, which is the best
evidence of the earnestness of those engaged in this effort to build a road.
N. B. G. M. Co,
A correspondent writing to us from
North Bloomfield, under date of Nov.
23d, says; ‘The bed rock has been
reached in the shaft being sunk by the
North Bloomfield Gravel Mining Co.,
at a depth of 208 feet, through 188 feet
of as pretty blue gravel as a man would
wish to look at, and which yielded
quite a namber of fine colors to every
pan the whole distance down to within
15 feet of the bottom, which yields
from 15 to 25 cents to the pan—20 pans
giving a product of $3.83. They are
now preparing to run a drift at the
bottom, to ascertain the inclination of
the bed rock in a northerly direction,
The shaft being sunk ia the Hiller Ravine is now down 88 feet, prospecting
well all the way.
What do you think of a bank 208
feet deep, tor a hydraulic claim? Some
folks here seem to think that where
this shaft is sunk there is nothing Lut
a basin or “pot hole,” while others believe it to bean old river channel, ruaning along the foot of the ridge. Everything tends to favor the channel
theory, such as washed and water worn
rock, decomposed and petrified wood,
heavy boulders, etc.
Additional Subscriptions. °
The following subscriptions were
yesterday added to the railroad list :
John C. and E, Coleman, $1000.
J,.M. Lakenan, $1000. a
J. I, Caldwell,$500.
Peter Ismert, $300.
8. B. Davenport, $250.
G@. V. Schmittburg, $100.
John Caldwell, $500.
. FB. H. Fisher, $100.
Making in all the sutn of $32,450.
Turkey Shooting.Ten shootists yesterday killed sixtytwo turkeys at Mulloy’s shooting
ground. John Lancaster, of the National Exchange, bagged thirteen the
largest number killed by anyone.
