Confusion reigned: in. the councils of Northern traitors, and their most cunning schemes for combining ‘the discordant ele~ resulted in their edmplete overthrow, and an overwhelming victory for Union, freedom and governmenut. It were unpossible tor us to magnify the importance and: results of that election. It demonstrates the ‘patriot ism and. integrity of the loyal people of Ainerica. ‘That they are able to rive ubove persoual, selfish or pecuniary interest to save their country and government, and thereby give to the world unmistakable proof that a free and intelligent people are capable of self government. It gives the most, sats isfactory evidence of the stability of our own‘ free republic. Never before ;bas the ex« perinient of popular government been so. severely tested or so triumphantly vindicated. our years agé our republic was threatened ' with dismemberment by the’ well planned schemes of accomplished traix men and with such. opportunities, wodld have subverted any other government on eurth. But yeaterd y it was threa‘ened with anarchy through the baseand licentious ‘thachinations of all the elements of treason end corruption within the loyal states—and of her enemies in arins against ber. She has triumphantly withstood the shock of both, without violating a single constitutional principle of free popular government, and must to-day occupy before the world a prouder, higher position than ever before. That election decides no peace with arm. ed rebellion until all traitors either retura to allegiance or leave their country, either by way of the gallows or exile. grave of infamy, that scourge of the nation the old prosslavery Democratic party, from whence it will arise, nevermore, nevermore. It proclaims a speedy end to the prostitution and the abuse of the prinviples of free press and free speech—as heretofore practised by the Copperheads in these loyal States. And these treacherous friends and abetora of rebellion will de well to beware how they heres after demand their rights in these loyal states tind abuse the magnanimity of a free people, or they may find that the rights of Coppers head traitors are reduced to single one—the ' Fight ‘to swing. It completely ronts the leit wing of the rebel army in the North, and quenches the last hope of the right wing in the South.— What was this whole Democratic, Copper= head organization, under the command of that up-start, blockhead and traitor, George B. McClellan, but an attempt to conquer the loyal North at the ballot box and lay it as a trophy at the feet of Jeff. Davis and his Confederacy. Verily the ballots of the’ 8th achieved a greater victory for union and freedom than all the grape,’ cannister sod minnie balls of our armies.in the field. And what has buoyed up the Confederate traix tors ot the South but the hope of division in the North—the overthrow of the present government, by the so-called peace demo~ crats, These are swept away and the speedy suppression of the rebellion and restora~ tion of peace are seemingly beyond a peradventure, Once more. It endorses by the loyal #« tion the policy of emancipation and makes the ultimate destruction of the infernal institution of American slavery certain. It is the voiee of the freedom loviog millones of the North, as the vice of the multitude which St Joho heard in Patmos—that henceforth there is no truce with rebellion until its cause is forever removed—that that proc~ lamation shall yet be heard in every rice swainp and slave mart of the South and hearing every yoke shall be broken and every slave go free. That henceforth there is no room in this Union for a State without a free Constitution, and that evermore America is to be in fact what hitherto she bas been in ome The land of the FREE, And the bome of the brave, Hallelujah.
