‘The Daily Transenyt,
NEVADA CITY, CALIFORNIA.
LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
RoaD MATTERS.— We understand
that George Gepbard,: Road Commissioner, will, if possible, examine all the
county reads before the winter sets in
and let contracts for keeping them in
repair. This is necessary in order that
the roads may be drained for the winter,
Of course it will be impossible for any
grading to be done during the winter
as the roads so improved would be washed away by the first rain. Mr. Gephard
is thoroughly posted as to roads and
we are confident that he. will make a
‘faithful and efficient officer. He thinks
that all the roads ought to be kept in
good repair, a certain proportion of the
fund each year should be devoted to
permanent improvements, such as gra”
ding, graveling, etc, If this is done we
will, under the present road law, have
ina few years excellent roads throughout the county. .
BustnEss PrRosPects.—Our merchants .
have for some weeks been receiving
their winter stocks of goods and there.
is a prospect that there will be quite a
lively trade from now until the holidays. For several months past trade has
ven exceedingly dull owing to the absorbing interest of the Presidentia)
campaign. For several months prior
to election very little business was done. ‘he pecple are again becoming settled
down to regular work and we look for
livelier times,
THANKSGIVING SERVICES.—Thanksgiving serviccs will be held in the
Methodist Church to-day, at eleven
o'dock A.M. All the congregations in
the city will unite, and the sermon will
be delivered by the Rey. A. Parker, of
the Congregational Church. The public is respectfully invited to attend on
this occasion of National and State
thanksgiving.
TURKEYs.—The turkey trade has been
very lively in the city for several days
past. At first these indispensibles to
a Thanksgiving, dinner brought from
$2 00 to $2.50, butso many were brought
to town that prices ranged yesterday
trom $150to$t Zieach. ‘The sales averaged about 25 cents per pound after
dressing.
Crosine Bustness.— We heard g uite
a number of business men express
themselves in favor of closing’ up their
places to-day. Ifthey can have concert of uction business will probably be
suspended after 10 o’clock this morning.
Founp.—A fur cape was found on
Piety Hill a few days ago, which the
owner can have by enquiring at this
office.
Post Orrice Hours.—The Post Office in this-<ity will be open to-day,
Thanksgiving, from 1 to 3 o’clock P.M.
No Parer.—To-day being Thanksgiving no paper will be issued from this
office to-morrow.
