yesterday between Benjamin Reed
and Chris. Janson,:in which: the
latter was shot and so badly wounddd
that he died in about two hours.—
Jansen and two other nien Were
playing cards in Carley & Tompkins’
saloon, and Reed sat upon the edge
of the table looking on. Jansen
had only afew checks and put up
_somé which he lost,-and Reed said,
“Your sixes wasn’t worth a d—n.”’
Jansen accused Reed of interfering
in every gaine he (Jansen) ‘‘got
into, and playing somebody else’s
hand.” This Reed denied and Jansen called him a d—d liar, and used
some other rough language. During
the quarrel Chris. got up and shortly
afterwards Reed went out, calling
Jansen. a lying s—n of a b— h, as he
went out of the door.’ He: went:.to
Okey’s ‘house, below Spring street
on Pine, and picked up a Colt’s navy
revolver which was lying on a‘shelf.
When asked what he was going to do
he said ‘‘nothing much,’’ or something to that effect. “He returned to
the saloon, according to the state‘ment of those present, in about. five
or ten minutes. The game in which
Jansen ‘was engaged was still going
—on when Reed ‘entered, Reed: wentto the bar and said to Jansen, ‘Now

of the medical profession, a profession horored by all thinking men, it is_only just to
