The Grand Jury which convened
yesterday morning adjourned at 5
o'clock last evening after submitting the following report:
“We have carefully examined
all matters reported to us and find
that the public buildings, including‘ the Courthouse, Jail and
County Hospital are all in good
repair and properly cared for, and
we especially commend the action
of the Honorable Boird of Supervisors in enlarging the County
Hospital to meet the necessities .
of the inmates thereof. We find
that the inmates of the Hospital
are well cared for, and are provided with all the necessities of life;
that the foud is sufficient in quan. .
tity, and that the sanitary condi-)
tidn of the building and grounds
is excellent. ge
We find that the books, records
and accounts of the several county officers are kept in a neat, systematic and proper manner.
We have inquired into the alleged evasion of the liquor law on
election day, and find that there
is such a general disregard of the
provisions of the Statutes as will
require greater vigilance on the
part of the District Attorney
and other offices of the law to detect and convict those who are engaged in the illegal! traffic.

Getting the Water Out.
Henry Richards, Superintendent of the Centennial drift mine’
of Washington township, was in
town yesterday. He says the
water in the shaft has been lowerped to the depth of 199 feet. In
abouta week more it will all be
oyt, and then the shaft, which is}
250 feet deep, will be sunk 30or 40
feet more, to the bedrock, and the
prospecting of the channel » by
drifting will begin.
Contract Completed,
Sawin Tilley & Co. have com. }
pleted their contract of sinking the
shaft at the Styles mine an additional hundred feet. The prospecting of the ledge will now
comm ence, and the State of Nevada capitalists who bave a bond on
the property will soon be able to
determine whether they want to
buy the property or not.

Hon. Niles Searls, Supreme

Now if there is one man who
relishes a pleasant joke better than
another, his name is Judge Searls.
He enjoyed hiniself amazingly all
of election day figuring out a victory for every Democrat from Dick
Bartlett for Governor, and picturparty would be fluttened out when
the news of their defeat camein.
That night he went to bed early
so asto be up’ with the sun and
celebrate the victory in good style.
The first thing he heard upon com. }

was that the: Republicans had the

Dillon for constable avd Temple
for Supreme Justice, with a bare
chance for Bartlett. There was
not much ground for a joke to be
found in the situation, but he had
the day before set his mind on
having one, and have one he
would. So he walked over to the
telegraph office and sent to his
friend Temple. a dispatch reading
thus: oe
