Pappy’s Ecuo.—We once saw a
story,of Patrick, who heard his master tell of a very remarkable echo
over the hill in the woods. Patrick
had a mind to try the echo himself,
so away he went, The accouatof his
excursion we will take as hé gave it
to his master. ‘I jist ran over to
the place ye was spuakin’ uv: to convarse a bit with the wondherful craythur. Sosays I, ‘Hello!’ ‘Hello,
hello, hello, you noisy rascal! I
thought that was very quare, sir,.
and I said ‘Hello!’ again. ‘Hello
f!’ said the echo; ‘you began
it first.’ ‘What are you made of?’
says I, ‘Shut your mouth,’ saidthe
echo; ‘i
scoundrel, if ye were flesh like an
honest man, Ta hammer ye till the
mother of ye wouldn’t know her impenent son.’ “ And’ what do you
think the echo sent back to that, sir?’
‘Scamper,” said he, ‘or if I catch ye,
I’ll break every bone in yer body!’
And it hit'me on the head with a big
stone, sir, and was nigh knocking
the poor brain out of. me, So I ran
as fast as ever I could, and so I’m
here to tell ye uy it, sir.’’ :
A : VicxspurG. wife informed her
husband the other morning that she
for want of a hired girl, and as he
went out she leaned back and fell to
weeping. The children were makhing a noise in the hallas he passed
out: “You want to stop this racket!
Your mother won’t live a week, and
when you get a stepmother here
next Spring, she won't put up with
such foolishness!” When he came
