ORDINANCE NO, 2.
TPYHE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE
County of Nevada do ordain as follows:
SECTION I,
_Every person, firm, company or corporation within the Connty of Nevada now engaged in, or who may hereafter engage in
conducting, transacting or ¢arryingon any
business in this ordinance hereinafter named, must before, or at any time of engaging
in the same, proeure a license therefor, as
provided forin this ordinance, Kach person, firm, G@ompany or corporation so engagedorwho may hereafter engage in such
business, must procure such license from
the Tax Collector, and shall be liable to a
license tax to be collected by thé said Tax
Collector of Nevada County. Such license
shall be paid for quarterly, (except as provided otherwise in thi& ordinance) in ad-'
vance, and When issued shall authorize the
party named therein to.transact such business in the said county. Separate licenses
must be obtained for each branch establishment, or separate house of business located
in “said county. Three calendar months
shall constitute a quarter.
SECTION II,
Auctioneers are divided into three classes,
and mugt obtain licenses from the Tax’ Collector as follows:—Those whose averagé
monthly sales amountto ten thousand dollars or more constitute the first class, and
must pay a license tax of sixty dollars per
quarter. -2—Those whose monthly sales
amount to twenty-five hundred dollars
andlesstthau ten thousand dollars constitute
second class,and must pay a license tax of
twenty-five dollars per quarter. 3—Those
whose average monthly sales are less than
twenty-five hundred dollars constitute the
third class,and must pay a license tax of
sever dollars and fifty cents per quarter.
SECTION III.
Persons engaged in banking, loaning
money at interest,orin buying and selling
notes, bonds or other evidences of indebtedness of private persons, or in buying or sel]}
ing state, county oreity stocks or otber evi.

Licenses must be obtained for the purposes hereinafter named, for which the Tax

5. Foreach pawn broker fifteen dollars
per quarter,

The provisions of this section. do not ap-.
ply to exhibifions or entertainments given
for the benefit of churches, s¢hools or other
charitable entertainments, by ‘any amateur
dramatie association: or literary society of
the town or district in which such exhibition or entertainment is given,
SECTION V
Every person whosells spirituous, malt or
fermented liquors or wine in less quantities
‘. than one quart, must obtain a li

license tax of fifteen dollars per quarter.
2. Every person who sells malt or fermented liquors or wine in less quantities
than one quart, and who does not sell spir{ . ituous Hquors, must pay therefor a license

SECTION VI.
Every person who at a fixed place of bus:
iness hols any goods, wares or merchandise, wines, or distilled liquors,, drugs or
medicines, jewelry or wares made of precious metals, whether On commission or otherwise (except agricultural or viniéultural
productions, or the’ productions of any
stock, dairy or poultry farm of this State
when sold by the producers thereof, and except such as are suld by auétioneers at publie sale unde? license); and all those persons
who keep horses or carriages for hire (except such as are used in the transportation
of goods), must obtain from the Tax Collector of this county for each branch of such
business, license, »nd pay quarterly there

by the class in which such person is placed
by the Tax Collector of this county; such
business to be Classified and regulated by
the amount of the average monthly sales

Every person who keepsa stallion, bull
or jack, and who permits the same to be used
forthe purpose of prepagation for hire,
must obtain a licensetherefor from the Tax

SECTION XIII.
The Tax Collector of Nevada County’ is
hereby authorized, empowered and rec uff:
ed to collect all county licenses, provided for
and required by this ordinance to be collected within the dimits of the said county
of Nevada, and itshail be the duty of the
Tax Collector to attend to the collection
of licenses, and examine all places of business and persons liahle to pay licenses, and
to see that licenses are taken out and puid
for. He shall have and exercise, in the
performance of'his official duties, the same
power as police otlicersin serving process
orsummons in making arrests; also shall
have and exercise the power to administer
such oaths or affirmations as shall be necessary inthe diseharge and exercise of his
official duties; and he is hereby empowered
to enterany place of bysiness. for which a
license is provided and required, free of
charge, at his pleasure, andto demand the
exhibition of any license for the current

SECTION XIV.
In addition to the penalty herein prescribed for the nonpayment of any license,

the provisions of Chapter 15, Title 7, Part 3,
of the Political Code Of California,‘and the
County Auditor must prepare blanks and
settle with the Collector as now required by
said chapter.
SECTION XV.

force on and after fifteen days from the
date of its adoption.

the Sheriff the sum of, $3009 to redeem said
Property from saidexecution sale. That on
he ivth day of March, 1887, plaintiff recovered a judgment in Department No. Two of
the Superior Court of said City and County
for gobs 38-100, Thaton March 19, 1887, said
Marshall filed for record in the office of the
