OWIN, ob . lately, some parties have been engaged . st, NEVADA CITY, GALIFORNIA, LOCAL INTELLIGENCE, _ A Hetnous Crimg.—A day or two ago, Clata Davis, a young lady aged about twenty years, died at her home in Sweetland, in this county, ander circumstances which aroused suspicion that she had been foully dealt with,and it was decided to hold an inquest on her bedy. The facts developed show that the treble crime of seduction,abortion and ‘murder had been cdmmtitted by some one. Lhe young dady was of prepossessing appearance atid of fair edication. She had been residing for several years in the same house with . “her father, George Davis, and her uncle . Henry Mc(racken, her mother’s broth-~ er, her mother being dead. It ‘has for some time been believed-inthe neigh=. cies of inertion, with laziness, whereas it usual. ly arises froma want of orgaric energy, for borhood that she was. pregnant, and her sudden death taken in connection with the report, aroused so strong sus. picion of foul play, that an investiga. ton "was demanded. The following ‘particulars. we received by telegraph last night: The town of Sweetland was thrown into a state of excitement yes+ terday, October 8th, bya report that a young lady by the name of Clara Davis had diedon the morning~of that day. from an abortion committéd by one Henry McCracken, an uncle of the des ceased, to conceal the fruits of his in¢estuous intercourse with her. Justice Stotlar, went from San Juan to Sweets land, and found the girl, aged about eighteen years of age. The Justice _ summoned a Coroner's jury, and a long examination was had. _ The jury rendered a verdict that Miss Davis had died from the effects of certain medicines administered to her by her Uncle McCrackin, and that previoug to her death she had given ‘birth to a full grown child the night before, to'wit, Oct. 7th, which ‘child could uot be found. McCracken was arrested and given until next Tuesday morning for hearing. Maticious Miscu1Er.—Officer Rid« ley informs us that on several occasions in playing pranks, which if continued, may subject the. perpetrators to arrest and prosecution for malicious mischiefOn Friday night, a pile of woodwas placed in such a way against Wells, ‘Fargo & Co’s. express office, that any one opening the’ door from ‘the inside might sustain serious injury. On the opposite side‘of the street two oil cans ‘were placed one above another, and on this a bundle of shakes were set in such a Way as to tumble in when the door opened. These tricks may be fun for the boys, but they, might result in mis— chief. Lost,-—A lot of legal papers were lost in this city about the 23d of September. The following certifichtes were granted: First grade—Anna M. Haas, Second grade—Peter McHugh, Samuel Gilles, pie, John T. Wickes. -'Third grade— Clara E, Jones, Ella Pearson, Annie Gregory.
