Heavy rains the past few days have caused floods in many districts of England. « & Philadephia syndicate will complete ‘the Muin-street hgtel at Los Angeles. A squaw 103 years old was killed on Sunday at Slate creek, Shasta county, iby being,run over-by cars. The twenty-six Chinese jaundries of Portland have formed a trust, and publish a card announcing a rive in prices. At Jamestown, Dak ,an n epidemic of scarlet fever is raging. The churches, Sundayschool and public schools have been closed. It has been decided to have no ‘more péfitical meetings in Indianapolis, as they have alredy interfered too much with business. The New York poolrooms have done a pooor business -since the election. °The sports seem to have nearly » @l gone broke. It is believed that William Walters” who was found dead near Anderson, Shasta county, did not commit suicide but was murdered. William Gersner, an old resident of Lake county, was thown from his wagon on Monday, and had one leg and one arm broken. Thomas L. Botts, of the famous Virginia family, committed suicide in New York on account of disappointment and losses of bets on tbe election. The Republicans intend to make the inauguration bull at Washington next March the biggest thing ever known in the country. They have already raised $10,000 in Washington towards paying the expenses of the inaugural demonstration. Tuesday afternoon at Maxwell, Colusa county, J. D. Moody, a painter, attempted to kill his wife by stabbing her several times in the breast. He then tried to commit suicide, but was unsuccessful. A report reached Colusa the same night that a mob was organizing to hang Moody. Gov. Gordon of Georgiain his inaugural does not fear that the South will be injured by the election of Harrison. The interest of one State is the the Union by creating inequalities in the bodies that compose it. Saturday night 200 men were discharged from the Navy Yard at Mare Island, and on Monday morning the Construction Department closed down entirely. ‘Tuesday night fifty men were let out the Steam Engineering Department.
