“tev did set for trial on Friday next,
“Woe ‘INTELLIGENCE,
Do. “1008 Dury.—_No loyal citizen
to attend the polls @pday, and cast his
vote for the Unibn candidates for Supreme J udge, State Superintendent of
Schools and County “Judge, whom there
"ig the best assurance will fill those post:
tions with fidelity, ability, and to the
advantage of the interests with which
they will be'‘charged. There is now a
motive which has not heretofore been
presented to call out a large vote. In
the past, the election of fhe candidates
of thedominant partyhas been a foregone conclusion, and little motive for
exertion has existed on either side; but
now the Democratic party, incited by
its late success, will make every effort
for party prestige, ‘and the Union party
__. Will strive to: recover that which waa} . ’
‘lost through disaffection and apathy at
the late election, and it has moreover
candidates in*the-field--upot whom its
support is united, and who are universally admitted, upon years: of trial, to
be competent and faithful,while against
them are men of untried qualifications,
doubtful antecedents. and associations,
and whose election can only. be urged
on partisan grounds. Every Union
man has therefore'a double. motive to
do his duty at the polls to-day.
Roppery at Moore’s Fiat.—On
Monday John MeNichols,, of. Moore’s:
Flat, lost $5,000 in gold under the’following circumstances; The families of
MeNichols and Pat. Doolin were neighbors and great friends. MeNichols had
beed on a spree fora number of days,
and his wile, fearing that he would get}
his money and squander it, went to the
place on the premises w here it was buried and dug it up. She took it ovér to
Doolin’s, and she and Doolin’s* wife
buried it in a small cellar under Mrs.
Doolin’s, bed .room.; Im due; time Mc:
Nichols sobered up and he and his wife
went over to Doolin’s to get the money
but it was not to be found. It is supposed that the place of deposit was un.
knewn to'any save the two women, and
ed to call . . settle ‘their accounts immediatély. Customers aré respéctfully
requested not to ask credit in the fa. ture, as we desire to'do strictly nto

street dragging and scolding a Chinawoman, whom he was forcing to go-with
him.. He, was evidently in great. rage
and. would. have beaten the woman, but
for the fear of the “Melican mén” who
stood around. He pulled her up to the
corner of Broad street, where some gentlemen interfered and compelled him to
releage the woman, who was apparently
much frightened, He went home and
shortly after returned. The woman had
gone up Broad street. ‘ She was overtaken by the man, who, it is stated, was
armed with a knife. He was watched
for somé time but ‘offered the woman
no violence, as, he. probably knew ‘he
would be arrested if he did. A China‘man who was asked what the treuble
was, replied :
He alletime go way. He nostay home,”
