An excellent counter has also been fitted up for transacting business of the money order system. Frank Guild has displayed great taste in the arrangement of his office and déserves credit for it. poll CHINAMAN RopBeD.—He Kee, a Chinese merchant of this city was stopped on Monday last on the Washington road, about a half mile above the toll gate and robbed of all the money he had about him. The_fellows were unmasked and He Kee describes* one as being an old man with whiskers and the other a8 a young maa without beard, both tolerably well dressed. The robbers got between four and five dollars. “Beer JERKERS” vs Firemex.—A shurt time since the Grass ValltyFiremen were called out by the ery. of fire. T hey turned on the water where the first light was discovered, and as it: happened, “wash: ed out a ‘Beer Jerker” establishment. A day or two since a warrant was sworn out before Judge Switb in this. city for the arrest of about twenty of the Firemen, including the Chief Engineer. They are ordered to appear before Judge Smith for examina tion on next Friday.”’ A Proxeer Gone.—Caleb Remmington, one of the oldest settlers of this county, died at the residence of his brother at Little York, on last Monday night. Mr. Remmington mined for many years at Remmingtoh Hill. He has had consumption for severalyears,and for a long time previous to his death was unable to leave the house. A Weppine.—Our County Treasurer, W. H. Crawford. was married on Monday evening to Miss Maggie L. Thomas. The happy pair started yesterday morning for the Bay on a wedding tour.
