The Eureka Mine, i
We are in receipt of the Annual
Report of the Eureka Gold Mining
Company of Grass Valley, and find
_ init the following facts of interest.
There has been hoisted_the~past
year, 8,207%4 tons of~quartz, and
SN30 tons were crushed. There
are 228 tons on the surface, and 3501broke in the mine ready for hoisting.
There has*beea 73% tons of sulphurets concenirated and 89 tons worked
and there is still 1644 tons on hand.
The receipts from various 8auitcés for
the year were $341,779 06> The
dividends declared amounted to $80, .
000. The receipts of the Company
since going into operation in. 1865
have been, $4,308,538 87, of which
$2,615,936 94 have been net profits.
The future prospects of the mine ac-cording to the report of the Superin_teudent is one of great doubt.
From Pills to Congress.
Dr. J. ©. Ayer, the great patent
medicine man of Lowell, has been
nominated for Congress, from the
7th Massachusetts District, and he.
will probably be eleeted. The energy
and business sagacity heretofore exhibited by him prove him to bea
man of ability and he will no doubt
' purge Congress and rid it of many-of
the disorders now affecting it.

Morrtatity Prevenrep.—It would
be a-moderate estimate to place the
number of cases in which Consumption is prevented by the timely use
or Hale’s Honey of Horehound and
Tar, at ten thousand per annum. No
cough, cold, bronchial affection, sore
throat, or other ailment of the organs.of respiration, can ever degenerate into a mortal disease, if this
summer, begin to wilt and droop;
now, ere the inclement weather . .
makes its trying onset; now is the
time for a preparatory course of the
best acclimatizing medicine in existenee, Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters.
Fever and ague ‘is rampant in all
parts of the country. Quinine, the
physicians admit, will not quell the
phase of the disease which at ee
ent pervades the entire West. I[t is
well that it is so, forthe remedy (socalled) is deadlier than the malady.
But if quinine is inefficient in intermittent fevers, Hostetter’s Bitters is
irresistible. It would be safe to
make a contract, under heavy penalties, that any given ‘‘fever-and-ague
district’ ‘should be exempted from
the disordér of any particular time,
provided every inhabitant would
take the Bitters according to direeions during theterm of the contract.
hag never been an instance . .
in which this sterling invigorant
and anti-febrile medicine has failed

of chills and fever. Vigor is the
thing most needful in these cuses,
as well as in dyspepsia and nervous
