Some Strong’ . . Measons Why He Must be Defeated, ~ Xo office within the gift of the people of Nevada county needs tobe more carefully filled than that of District Attorney. The incumbent must, in order to secure the best interests of the people, be a man of ripe experience in law matters, upright and conscientious in his methods of business, and enjoying the perfect confidence of all, When the Democrats placed. in nomination young Mr. Ford of Truckee, they perpetrated another of those blunders for which their party, National, State and county, has ever been notorious. We believe that his election—whichis not probable—would prove not only a misfortune, but a great calamity, A lawyer who will give advice and counsel‘and draw the pleadings on one side of a civil case, and then after filing them in court turn around and undertake the management of the other side of that. case, violates professional ethics if nothing more. When a lawyer counsels for the People ina criminal case, draws the complaint and files it in court, and then when the defendant is brought into Court attempts forea fee to defend him, he not only violates. his sworn duty as an attorney, but he is guilty of a misdemeanor and In Truckee several years ago Ah Goon was charged with practicing medicine without a@ license, Mr. Ford instituted a suit against him in the name of the People, drew the complaint, filed it in Justice Danster’s court, and then going over to the other side defended the aud at the same time defended the case. This occurred only last May. These are some of the reasons why Thomas S. Ford should not be elected to the important office of District Attorney. They are enough of themselves to defeat bin by an overwhelming vote. There are other good reasons for voting against him, and for Hon, E W. Roberts, and we will print them from time, to time. oe SIERRA COUNTY. What Some of the Great Mines se there Are Doing.
