Union majority..c..---. 440
We have a dispatch from North San Jaan
stating that 78 votes had been cast at noon,
and not a secesh ticket had been aeén. There
were about 300 votes cast’ at Grass Valley
probably. The Copperheads came in to
some extent there, but the Union men last
night claimed to have carried the place.
_ LaTEeR.~-We Aeceived the following despatch last night from-North San Juan ;
“162 ¥otes polled. All ours! Copperheads have hibernated,”

Ee By an advertisement in another col<
umn it will be seen that.a large lot of honsehold furniture will be disposed of at pablic
auction, to-morrow, at 104 o’clock, on Pine
street. “Ike” says this is. the best lot of
furniture that has been offered for sate for al”
long time. Soall in want of parlor sets;
, bedroom sets, sofas, chairs, carpets, bureaus,
what-nots, stoves, china sets, in fact everything used in keeping a first class house,
should be on hand.
PEACH BRANDY.—A large quantity of this
article is making in this vicinity. We know
of no less than four distilleries operating.
The quantity of peaches, however, that will
be worked up into brandy, is but a small .
portion of the cfop raised hereabouts this
year, and indeed but a small part of the
peaches that miight have been used forthe
purpose.
Brrer Liner'ry.—Last week, says the
Solano Press, two prisoners confinedin Sola,
no county Jail, made their way out of that
institution. and made tracks for the-hills, but!
the Sheriff was iu pursuit and gaining on
them. An order to halt was disobeyed, but
' ball grazing the cheek of one of the rascals,
they concluded to obey orders, and were duly
marehed back-to old quarters.. :
