giving several days labor, and the frame

give a party to raise money to furnish
the house. The building -is one of thie
neatest and most finished structures of

next Thursday evening Coon Grissel,at . :
Washington, will open, his--newhotel
with a grand ball. . The hotel was destroyed by the late fire and the dance is
proposed as an inauguration. The best
of music has been engaged and an excellent. supper will be provided. Washington is one of the pleasantest places
in the county for a dance, and we hope
the coming party will be largely attendScnoot Party.—The ladies of Selby
Flat School District, will give a party
and supper on Friday evening, October
18th, for the purpose of raising money . :
to aid in completing the building. The
dance will take place at the new school
house, near Selby Flat. The supper
will be ‘prepared by the ladies of the
District, and will, without doubt, be excellent. ‘Tickets are only $2.
Sinerne Cuiass.~-Mr. Chase will
commence a course of instruction in
vocal music, for ladies and ‘gentlemen,
at the school:room of Miss Hubbard, in
the building adjoining the Theatre, on
Monday evening, October 7th, at 8
o’clock.
DEATH’ OF aN OLD RESIDENT.—
Mathew Creamer, an old resident of
Nevada county, was buried at Virginia
City on Thursday last. He went over
some time since for the purpose of settling up.some. mining business, designing to visit the East, but was taken
sick and died. He was engaged for
many years in mining at Omega i in this
county. “He was a native of Virginia
aged about Ai years.« —
New Overen SaLoon.—Billy King
has opened an oyster saloon in Sandy’s,
on the corner of Broad and Pine streets,
where oysters will be served up in any
style desired, Families will also be
supplied at their residences by leaving
their orders. Pickled pigs’ feet, sheep's
tongues, clams, &c.,on hand and served
up”at a moment’ 8 notice.
Surrs. CommENCED.—District Attorney Caldwell . has commenced. suit
B irae the ‘delinguent tax payers of
eadow Lake Township. It will be remembered. that an extension of time
was granted on the petition of property
holders last Spring. The delinguents
got all the time they asked and suit has
been commenced as above stated,
