LOCAL AFFAIRS.
Local Brevities.
A grand totchlight procession will
. . take place in this city on’ next Tuesday evening. Hon. H. F. Page will
address the people here on that occasion. A free train will be run
from Grass Valley, and several hundred willcome up, besides a large
number of people will be here from
all parts of the county. Every Republican who can, should attend the
meeting.
As soon as the ‘‘verdict of acquittal,” in the case of Wm. O'Neil, one
of the parties charged with murder: .
ing Chinaman at Trout Creek, was
people.there brought out the hig
cannon and fired a salute.
The building of Charley Robinson’s
new grocery store, on Broad street,
opposite the Methodist Church, is
» progressing well. It‘is all covered
in, and the workmen are now at
work on the inside of it. When completed it will be a nice store.
Niae car loads of freight were
. brought up from Colfax to Grass
. Valley and this city yesterday. The
freight business is very lively for a}.
little railroad!
Several times during the past few
months obstructions have been
placed on the rdilroud by some infamous Villain. The first time a lot
of lumber was placed on the track
neat the picnic grounds,’ and the
‘last_ time a lot of Branches of trees
aid logs-were put upon the track
near the old Storms’ ranch. The
engineer and fireman, who are always on the lookout, discovered the
obstructions in time, and consequently no damage was done. If
the cowardly scoundrel is ever discovered, the people will make
mighty short work of his ‘worthless
‘careass. . If mob law is ever j
it would be in jast such . ;

. Ore. Afew days agoa crushing of
19 loads was put through the mill,
and the yield was 278 ounces of gold
worth about $5,000.. The ore was
from the old Huston Hill Mine.
Seventy-three prisoners have been
lodged in our County Jail duting
__ the pastseven months. During that
time sixty-two have been discharged,
Jeaving a balance on hand of eleven.
Hon. H. F, Page will address the
people of Grass Valley, on Monday
evening next. We predict that it
will be a rousing meeting.
The Board of Supervisors yesterday established the election precincts:
and appointed the ‘election officers.
‘The official proceedings of the SuPervisors will be found in another
column,
But few counties,in this State are
insuch a healthy financial condition as this county. According to
. the Auditor’s report the total debt is
ouly $39,371 71, exclusive of interst. Warrants on thé general fund
are worth 97 cents in the market.
Most of the Truckee people have
departed for home. The Trout
Creek cases have ‘been very expenGive to the county, =
Stocks had a terrible ‘black eye”’
yesterday. Nobody around here has
any of the Virginia securities on
hand now. Wait till they go-up-and.

W. B. C. Brown, a Democratic
Speaker, will address the people of

we have not been informed of the
exact date.
