We made an item some days ago of ¢he departure of R. E. Comins, of the firm of McKillican & Comins, merchants at North Bloomfield, for San Francisco, to buy goods, and that his friends had ~pot seen or heard of him. On Saturday last, D. R. McKillican, his partuer, went in search of him, arriving in San ‘Francisco on Sunday. He found that Comins, who left Bleomfield on the 14th of September, reached San Francisco on the 15th, and on the morning of 16th went to the Bank of California and drew on checks and notes $3,000. He did not stop at the hotel he usually stopped at, and where he lodged on the night of the 15th could not be ascertained. After his visit to the bank, ~~none of the creditors of the firm or acquaintances of Comins saw him, Com. ins’ business in San Francisco‘was to settle with creditors and buy Fall goods.’ Daring all the time they were in business together Comins attended to the inside business, kept the accounts, and his partner, McKillican, was often away, and when at home attended to the outside work. He had known Comins fur twelve years, had been a partner of his for three years, and had the greatest confidence in his integrity, entrusting him with the entire management of finances. As soon as Mr. McKillican became satisfied, he called a meeting of the creditors and informed them that he could not tell whether the firm was solvent or not, as he left Bloomfield without the least suspicion that anything was wrdng, and that he did not know what the assets or the amount of indebtedness of the firm were. The creditors appointed L. A. Upsom to goto Bloomfield and investigate matters, and he, in company with Mr. McKillican, passed through this city on their way yesterday. Had Comins intended to defraud his partner, . the. money he got im San Francisco eduld have been, no object;as-he might . : at any time have sold his half interest for more than $3,000. The investigation to be made will prob. bly develop the truth of the matter. call Measles. Measles are abundant in this locality at present, nearly. every family has : been invaded, and: the Jarger the family the more measles they have, as the disease goes entirely through. One family of eight, including one of the parents, had it at the same time, and another had four.down at one time. One little urchin on the street, having _atin horn, said to another one about thesame age, “Johnny you ain’t got no horn.” “No,” said Johnny, “but I’m going to have the measles, ’cause my mother said.so.” The disease is. of the. mildest type, prebably because it is so widely spread. The customary salutation in Nevada now is “How are the measles ?” and the reply “Coming out beautifully.” South Vuaba Gravel Company. The South Yuba Gravel Mining Comi-. pany, having found prospects intheir shaft which: yield as high as. $1 50 to the pan, have determined to prospect the ground more thoroughly, and wiil therefore begin 4mmediately to run drifts in différent directions into the gtavel. These claims are located near Hupuefauth’s old place on the Wasby, _Atigton ridge. New Goods. Bliven & Potter,on Commercial street, have just received a large stock of new goods in their line, including wall paper, new patterns, curtains, shades, glassware, and all sorts of fancy goods —and table cutlery. They have a new patent broiler, which can be used on any stove and without making smoke. Body Found. ap On Tuesday evening the body of an unknown man was found on the Sierra Valley road, twelve miles from Truckee. His dog and gun was found by his side. ; He is supposed to have died in a fit, ey brought on by hard drinking.
