Supplement Towday.t
We issue a supplement to-day,
wontaining the speech ‘of Governor
Booth, and also the letter of Phillip
Clayton of Georgia, and another
from Gen. Dix.The letter of Clayton we would especially commend to:
Democrats as being the judgment of .
a leading member of their party and
a prominent Southern man, as to
the relative merits of Grant and
‘Greeley. He gives the circumstances
of the sarrender of the South
armies to Grant, and places i in strong
eontrast the. magnaminity of .the soldier with the littleness and vindictiveness of Greeley. ‘Let all readers:
think over this letter, and the record
eontaiced therein, and then contrast Grant as a himane and honor-{
able man, with the vindictive hate
of his opponent. We have the authority of Reverdy Johtison for saying that Grant, when the proseoution of Lee was talked of, was the
first toprotest against. it, and was
most urgent in urging the pardon of
But all this is fully
set forth in the supplement, and we
commend these facts to the consideration of thinking men of all parties.
Mining Hereabouts.
Recently the mining developments
‘in this vicinity have been most en¢ouraging. The older mines.appear
to be yielding well and the recent
prospects are excellent, The Penntylvania’ Mining Co. hag reached
about 900 feet on the incline, and are
about running off from the latter.
The ledge on both sides looks first
rate. The Goid Tunnel is very rich,
it being estimated thi the rock. is
worth fully $100 perton. The Prov_idence ledge is said to‘be from four
to five feet thick, and the rock of
first grade. The Murchie mine still
continues to yield handsomely. Bewides"“these some’ new enterprises
have just been undertaken, and the
quartz prospect is most encouraging.
The ¢hances are excellent for a very
lively winter in this locality,

Half Alive: ~
It is a sad thing to pass through life only
half alive. Yet there are thousands whose
habitual condition is one of Ianguor and deeases; they suffer no positve pain, but. they
tobitst and energetic fellow beings.
In nine cases out of . ten ‘this state of lassitude and torpor arises from a morbid stomach, Indigé. tion destroys the energy of
both. mind and body. When the waste of
_ néture is not supplied by a due and regular
assimulation: of* the food, every organ is
starved, every func tion. interrupted,
Now, what does common sense suggest
under these circumstances of depression,
The aystero needs rousing and strengthening; not merely for an hour or.two, to sink
aiterwards into a more pitible condition
than ever (as itassuredly would:do if an
ordinary alcohulic stimulant-were. resorted
to) but radically and permanently.
How is this desirable object to be accomplished? The answer to this question,
founded on the unvarying experience of a
quarter of a century, is: easily given. Infuse new vigor into the digestive organs by
& course of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters.
Do not waste timed in admistering temporary
remedies, but wake the system up by reYuperating the fountain-head of . physica]
strength and energy, the great organ upon
whichall the other organs depend for their
nature and support.
By the time that a dozen doseg or the great
vegetable tonic and invigorant have been
taken, the feeble frame of the dyspeptic
will begin ‘to feel its benign influence.
Appetite Will be created, and with appetite
‘the capacity to digest what itcraves. Pre‘serve until ctiteis complete-—until health.
