COLLISIUN.—We are informed by @ passenger who came up to Sacramento on the
Washoe, on Tuesday list, that she was Fun,

Washee had just made the landing and was
about starting, when the Yosemite struck
her forward of the wheel house, injuring
her considetably , but net se miich as to prevent her from Continuing the trip. Our ins

LARGE PLANER.—Messrs. Rich & Stiles
have just received trom New York a large

MEETING.—Therewill be a meeting of
Protection Hook and Ladder Co., this
Thursday evening, st 8 o'clock. A Juli ats
tence of the officers and members is earnest
ly desired.
THe CaMancHe.—The ‘work of recon«
structing this iron clad, says the Bullatin,
ig progressing as rapidly as possible. The
iron bull is entirely finished, with the exe
ception of driving a few bolts and tightening
& few joints, and water will bo let into it
this week to: ascertain if it leaks. The
heavy machinery for the turret aad engines
is being placed in the bull. The oak lining
ofthe overhang is more than half on and
will soen be ready for the iron plating.
The massivedeck timbers are in their place.
In short, the skeleton of the iron monster
is almost finished, .and there will never be
& better opportunity te ciew its general construction. A considerable namber of. visi.
tors throng the yard paying an sdmission
fee of 25 cents each. The receipts of the
Sanitary Commission from this source, last
week, were about $400.
ie
Musicat prodigies are almoat constantly
making their appearance in Eurepe. The
latest isa Portugese boy, uained Ferreira,
whe plays upon his hands, using no other
instrument. He does not whistle at all: it
is pure flute-playing. The notes are produced on the lett hand, and be plays upemit
with his right. The four fingers of the left
hand are opened like the letter V—two
fingers on each side. The mouth is inserted
in the openiog, so thatthe tips of the fingers
come near the eyes. The thumb of the
right hand is placed on the palm of the left,
and the fingers play freely, as it deems. in
the air, but they affect every note. If the
reader attempts to produce a musical sound
that way he will probably fail, but Ferreira
produces two octaves anda half. His fortissimo ig tremendously strong, and his
Pianissime as faint a8 the distant warbling of
the lark. ‘
