LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Great MBETING aT TRUCKEE.—On Satarday'night a grand Union meeting was held at Truckee. E. H. Gaylord presided, and an immense crowd gathered from Truckee, Boca and the places round about, to listen to thé” apeeches of Hons. A: A. Sargent and T. B. Mc Farland. Mr. Sargent. made the first speech, and gave a thorough review of the position of parties, which was lis tened. to with close attention by, the audience. Judge McFarland made an mocracy without gloves, Both speakers were attentively listened to and. fre— quently cheered. During Judge MeFarland’s speech, one of the ‘unterrified’ attempted to interrupt the meeting, but he was quickly called to ‘order bya muscular Unionist. The meeting was @ decided: success, and the loyal‘men of Truckee and Boca predict good round majorities for Grant and Colfax at both places. Tae Risine Star.—The Rising Star quartz mine, located on Deer Creek a short distance below town, is yielding very rich quartz. We were shown yesterday by A. H. Hagadorn a specimen which: measures: more than a foot in diameter. It was streaked with pure, bright and glistening gold. ‘The ledge is about three feet in thickness, and the richest ruck is of the character of the specimen just mentioned. The second grade of ore contains more sulphurets but pays well. -The specimen was / taken from the new incline, 260 feet below the surface. The mine is. being rapidly opened for extensive working, and there is every indication that the “Rising Star? will soon be in the ascendancy as a good paying mine. » CHas. W.
