Nevada has some things to be
proud ‘of. She is the only State in
the Union’ which does. not share in
the Riverand Harbor ‘steal; she is
the only State in the Union which
has-no distillery within her limits;
she is the only State in the Union in

ROSECRANS AND YOUNG DEMOCRATS.
(Oakland Times.)
Gen. Rosecranshas a very low idea
of thé Qharacter of the youug men of
the Democratic party; he seems to
think that they all want-to be. paid
for voting the ticket. As the Democratic committee has.but few to asgess, Rosecrans must feel somewhat
despondent. The pre-eminent and
conspicuous littleness of a mau has
never been more élearly shown, than
in the person of the Chairman of the
national Democratic committee.
“THE CRANKY BEE.
(Bodie Free Press.)
About the craziest gang of white
people running at large is the greenb.ckers of California. Just what
they desire is not known to themselves, and when it comes to outsiders the latter are wholly at sea on
the subject. Culifornia has never
introduced greenbacksasa circulatiag
medium, and the people do not desire paper money. Gold and silver
are yood enough for anybody. Of
cuurse the Sayramento Bee favored
greenbacks at one time, but the Bee
is cranky on the subject of fiat muney, slickens,; hay seed, green watermelons and such truck.
é ——— ro
Mrngs io California which were
abandoned thirty. years ago, are
again receiving attention, and many
of the districts which had ‘been given over to the Chinamen are now being worked by white men.
Pioneers. ever tuck out of them.
Thereare now many thousaiids of
n:en who are quietly working. placer
mines on their own account and making much better wages than could
be obtained at any trade.

A Queer House.
Matallic City, near Candelaria,
boasts of an unique honse. Its walls
ate made of etmpty candle boxes
fille] with sand and piled oo each
ather. The outside has been painted a brick color, and striped so that
the structure looks as though )t was
made of bricks. The mantlepiece is
made entirely of human bones taken
ner being ornamented. with the
skulls of men who died in Pioche
with their boots on. On this ghastiy structure rests a picture of the
‘living skeleton,” the man who was
in Barnum’s collection of curiosities.
The frame around this picture is
composed of the teeth of coyotes.
There are other equally odd pieces of
furniture and bric-a-brac iu” this
house, The occupant is an old man
who is.said to have been nine times
bitterly disappointed in love. What
is quite strange, he has four brothers, each one of whom have had
their lives blightedby cruel young
ladies.
