Residcace Sold.
-John Bouny, one of the owners
in the Spargo mine, has purchased
for the sum of $1,500 cash the residence at the corner of Zion street
and ~ Tribulation Trail, Piety
Hill, formerly owned by Mr. Chestnut. The sale was made through
the agency of Postmaster ‘Holbfook.

Grass Valley Reform Club.
The ladies of Gras Valley were
busily engaged Thursday in arranging and decorating the table,refreshments stands and hall for the Reform
Club’s opening on Thurday evening.
The hall was prettily decoratetl with
ivy, while numerous mirrors and oil
chromos adorned the walls. The
first part of the evening’s exercises
consisted of vocal and _ instrumental
music and recitations. Thomas’

. music. G. D. Blakey delivered the
opening address. He briefly stated
the object of the club, which was to
make the organization a permanent
and enjoyable affair with the assistance of the citizens. The programme
was well arranged and rendered. Afcollation was served in an adjoining
and dancing commenced. The: htter was kept up till break of day.
It is estimated that 125 couples
were in attendance, including a large
number of Nevadans. As high as 15
sets were on the floor: at’ one time.
Financially and socially it was a big
success. Some $200 were cleared.
The dancing music was furnished by
~ Messrs, Beckett and Maitin’s string
band. A $65 Checkering piano added greatly tothe music. The inetrument was recently purchased by
the Club.

First Blood,
The political potis beginning to
boil in Nevada county. Oa Wednesday night, when Glascock spoke
at NorthSan Juan, Justice uf the
Peace Stotlar-and-John Stone —became involved in an argument as to
the. merits of the speech. The
Judge, who is a stalwart Republi+-can,-finally bounced-Mr. Stone;-whotrains with the Hancockers, and for
a time ‘the crowd ot spectators were
highly edified. After a brief scrimmage both participants quietly Tetired, neither one being much the
worse for wear, When they met
derstanding was amicably adjusted
over a glass of ginger beer, and now
piece reigns supreme in San Juan
so far as our two belligerent friends
are concerned.

The Bridge Bids.
Messrs. Smith and Huckins of the
Nevada county Board of Supervisors
and J.°B. Russell of the Placer
county Board met at the Court
House in this city yesterday and
opened the bids and specifications
for the building of a bridge across
Bear river at Crandall’s crossing.
Bids were submitted by A. F, Miller, J. B. Lake, San Francisco
Bridge Company, Macklin & East—
man and Wm. B. Campbell. The
bids ranged from $1,476 to $3,200.
At time of going to press the -contract had not been awarded.
