Republican Stal Platform.
The following is the Platform adopted by
the Republican State Convention: k
Resolved, That the Republicans of the
State of California, in Convention assembled,
indorse and reathrm the National platform
of the Repub‘ican party, adopted at its Convention, recently held in Chicago, and we
congratulate the count.y upon the nomination of Blaine and Logan, the true representatives of the American policy of progress
and unity, ‘
Resolved, That we declare that the pros.
perity of labor and the interest of capital
require the maintenance by the National
Government of the American system of
tariff for protection, Under this policy
which has. been constantly supported by
the Republican party since its foundation,
our varied industries have been fostered
aud extended, our laboring classes haye enjoyed better wages than in any other part of
the world, and’ the whole country has
achieved unparalleled prosperity. We denounce the free trade policy which the Democratic party haa advocated since 1840. a9
dangerous to the well-being of American
labor. We arraign the Democratic party of
California for supporting the National
Demvcratic party, which stands upcn a platform that declares, in effect, for the freetrade doctrine of tariff for revenue only, as,
admitted by prominent members of the committee that framed the plank. ‘We insist
that the success of the British policy would
destroy the growing industries of our com.
monwealth, especially the grape, raisin, wool
and manufacturing interests, and would reduce the wages of our workingmen to the
starvation point.
Resolved, That we ask and demand that
the industry of the manufacture of the raisin
shall be protected by a protective duty, and
resolved that we demand the restoration of
the tariff on wool as tixed by the law of 1867
Resolved, That we are in favor of the
dopti of the proposed amendment to
Section 7 of Article 9 of the Constitution of
this State, authorizing the furnishing of
free text-books for use in the common
schools throughout the State,
Resolved, that the Republican party of
Cahforn a hasa consistent record in ite uns¥erving devotion to the interests of the
people in opposition to all monopol:es,
tirst— We dec.are that railroad corporations
being organized for a public use, all unjust
uiscrimination as between persons and

this great issue. We arraign the Dumocrat© purty of Culifornia tor supporting a candidate tor President whose pubhe record
iventifies him as a friend of monopoly and an
cuemy to the rmghts and the interests of
the people. We particularly denounce tne
docurine advanced by the nomunee of the
venvcratic paity for Presivent in his veto
in the wew York Legi-lature of the bill reCucing fares onthe Elevated Rail oads, in
which he declared that there was nu constiCulivnal power in our Legislatuie to re ulate aud abridge privileges yranted by _forwer Legislature to a public agency. This
extreme monopolistic view had been condemuneu by the higher Courts of the land, is
