CE, LARGE WHITE DINGS, ays, for rices as of the chasing wn imation. without nmnets, rik. NY,! Street, NALLY “Tae Bal Tec NEVADA CITY, A: LOCAL. INTELLIGENCE. Mintse AY Wasitxaron. st miners in the vicinity of Washington are. prospecting for quartz and recently several rich discoveries have been made. “The Ilinois ledge was located three weeks ago. It id three miles from Washington on the Yuba river. The ledge is four feet wide. The shaft is down eight fect and rock taken . from this depth and crushed in a mortar, yielded at the rate of $225 perton. From this ledge rock is being packed, on mules, to the Tecumseh mill, a distance of three miles. Van Dusen & €o. are owners of this ledge. The Mary Hale is about three ‘hundred feet higher up the river, and the -eroppings give excellent prospects. This ledge has only been locatetl a few days, and work will be commenced upon it next Monday. A number of other locations have . been made where excellent indications are found. Washington are all large and on account of the precipitous hills can be easily worked by tunnels. The great drawback is the difficulty of getting rock from the mines to the mills. Such rock as has been recently found will ensure the construction of good roads, and necessitate the building of new mills. Washington is destined to become the centre of a prosperous quartz district at no very distant day. The ledges are there and all that is needed is willing hearts and strong arms to develop them. The placer mines in this néighborhood are also turning out well. Rocky Bar neyer yielded better than at present. Brown & Co. have found a new channel in their claims which is yiclding from fifteen " twenty-five hundred dollars per week.— Harom & Co, are taking ont about thirty dollars per day to the hand. Hazen & Co. are also making excellent “runs” every week. Tae YELLOW DiaMonp.—The Yellow Diamond is located on Rocky Ravine, about two and a half miles north-west of this city. A tunnel has been run, tapping the ledge seventy -five feet below the crop-. pings, where the ledge was found twenty inches wide, running up to four or six feet. The rock is of a bluish color and containg some very rich sulphurets. Several tests have recently been made, establishing the richness of the lead. From one lot, two ounces of sulphuret rock was erushed and worked with acid, the result pound paid dollar. This latter class of ore-shows considerable free gold. The Oro Fino Mining Company has taken a contrhct to take out and work. two thousand tons of rock within twelve months. The company has been to work about three weeks and has taken out about fifty tons. In 1858 a very rich pocket was found in this ledge, from which about $6,000 was taken. _ From that time until within a year, work done was entirely upon the surface. From the time the owners commenced prospecting in earnest, tha mine has continually improved. The claim consists of 1 ,200 feet, and is owned by A. J. Ragon, H. . Hentze, and M. Green. a ' For. THE State Farr.—Quite a large number of persons are leaving this city for the State Fair, and Nevada county will have some fine stock there: “John Conness,” owned by George Jacobs, and Lancaster’s pacing filly, among them. These “nags” will give a good report of themselves when they enter the “lists” for premiums., ACatiFornia Lidn.—A large California lion was seen. short time since near the Cold Spring, on the Washington road. He crossed the road a short distance ahead of & gentleman and did not deign to notice ] him.
