Brick Pomeroy—A new dodge.
Brick Pomeroy, whose very namé
is abhorred by all true lovers of the
lamented Lincoln, lectured to a $7
house in this city on Saturday evening last. The article in Saturday’s
Transcript, evidently, had its effect.
‘In order to get even, financially, ‘the
celebrated’ gave notice in the Union
that on Monday evening, at Hamilton Hall, Grass Valley, he would an_swer the TRanscripr’s strictures on
himself. This is anew dodge to draw
a good audience, and anything ue
might say of this paper will be regarded as complimentary. We hope
Brick, the celebrated, or some other
brick will farnish us with a synopsis
of his remarks.

A Pig for a Vote.
On the last election day a voter who
resides in Bear Valley, started for
Omega to vote, and as he was getting
into the wagon, his wife said to the
driver ‘‘don’t let my man vote unless
he goes the straight Booth. ticket.’
The voter who. had about determined
to vote more than half the Republican ticket made up his mind during
the trip to do as his wife advised, and
when he got to Omega he put in the
ticket without a scratch. After the
election was over. and the result
known, Elijah Tompkins killed and
_ dressed a fine pig which he sent to
the wife, who had, through her husband, secured a sound Republican
vote.
Examination.
Judge Caldwell was yesterday en; gaged in the examination of Margaret
~ Lanneville, charged with assault .
with intent to murder Peter Gelatly
at Boston Ravine, on Sunday, Aug.

A father who voted at Washington,
in this county, wanted his son, who
came-from the south since the war,
to vote the Democratic ticket. The

I DID, AND SEEN LOYAL MEN SHOT

cow bell on his neck, drawing a bug8y, on either side of which Pomeroy
was labeled ‘‘success,’? was not a

International Money Orders. —
ks and blanks were received at
the Post Office in this city yesterday,
for the international money order
business which commences between
the United States and Great Britain,

and is payable in any part of England, Seotland or Ireland in English
money,

Still Onward and Upward.
The extraordinary increase that has taken
‘piace in the sale of Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters during the past. year, is another
proof that an intelligent people, although
they may try afi things, hold fast only to
that which is good. No amount of puffery
can lift inferior articles to the position of
standard specifies. To use the words of
Tom Paine, they may go up like a rocket,
but are sure tocoma down ignominiously
like its extinguished stick, Hundreds of
such nostrums have gone up and come down
since the introduction of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters, nearly the fifth of a century
ago. Yet it still remains the supreme tonic
of the age. It has not, and never has had a
rival in efficacy or popularity, and now
stands at the head of all proprietary remedies manufactured. on this side of the Atlantic. In every civilized community on
this continent, or in South America, itis the
accepted remedy for dyspepsia, billious
complaints, constipation, general debility,
nervous Weakness, and many other unpleasant or dangerous maladies. A medicine so
itated by dealers without conscience or integrity.
Therefore, let‘evyery man and woman who
designs to purchase the genuine Hostetter’s
Stomach Bitters, see to it that they have
what they pay for, arid not the results of an
infamousimposture. Look carefully at label, stamp, and name blown in the glass, and
do not forget that the true bitters is sold in
bottles only. :
