Tuk CoNCERT AND FeEsTIVAL.—The ‘eoldred. people’s concert and féstival, held at Temperance Halt; on-Thursday. night, “was a complete success, and a respectable sum of money was realized. . The music by Carter’s Brass Band andthe Nevada Quadrille Band was excellent. The songs and chorusses were also good. The supper was superb and we are sorry that more did not partake of it. Many more than seven baskets full were ‘left untouched — In the hall the tables were decorated with boquets, and we noticed several plates of fruit, such as would have gladdened the Jews who went to spy out the Land of Promise. A large number of “nic-nacs” . were sold at the stands. The “grab-bag” created a great deal of merriment, and we saw ‘a number of old bachelors draw out a hand-full of “baby fixins.”. After the sapper the young folks adjourned to the lower hall for a dance, where they. enjoyed themselves hugely. The exercises were varied, entertaining and amusing, and the colored people deserve credit for their tact in the management of the affair. Dies FOR COUNTERFEITING.~—On Thursday last the children of Mr. Allen, while engaged in play, in the rear of an old cabin, near the Canada Hill mill. found dies which were used for counterfeiting. They were remarkably well executed and were dated 1859. They had the “8” of the San Francisco coin, under theeagle. Thedies were intended for making half dollars, and had probably beén hid behind the stump . where the children: found them, by the parties who used them., The plates were bolted together with three bolts, and had an opening on one side through which-to run the metal they used for counterfeiting. They had not been used for some time, as the bolts were thickly coated with rust. PARDON REVOKED.—A revocation of the pardon of George Taylor, now in the county jail, was received from the Executive Department at the Sheriff's office yes‘terday. George Taylor, alias McKinzie, alias Delacy, was sent from Amador county, in 1863, to the penitentiary, for stage robbery, and was pardoned by Governor Low in July last, the conditions being that he should leave the State before the 10th day of August. He did not comply with the condition, but came to this county.— The officers were satisfied that he was not getting his living by legitimate means and he was arrested. The information which could be obtained was communicated to -the Governor, and the pardon was revoked asabove stated. Taylor will go back to his old quarters and will be likely this time to complete his term. Hiehway RopsBery.—A man was stopped by three highwaymen on Wednésday night, between this city and Gold Flat.— The robbers went through their victim thoroughly and found a “lone” piece of. coin, One of them said: “Boys, we have. found two dollars and a half, all the poor bugger’s got, let him go.” The fellow only had one dime, which the rogues mistook for a two dollar and a half piece. The robbers made 3} cents each, a good night’s work. . ~ TH Exurstrion.—Vanhorn’s paintings will-be exhibited in this city again this evening.. The editor of the Grass Valley Union, who has seen them, says : “They are really worth seeing.” The National says: “Some of them are beautiful, and are wall worthy of being seen. The views » of Ophir Hill mill and the Orphan Asylum are alone worth the price of admission.” THE FEDERAL AsskssMENT.—The Federal assessment of taxes in Nevada county for the year ending June 30th, 1866, according to the statement of J. M. Avery, Federal Assessor, is $166,361 34. This is “large increase upon the tates of last year. 5 : senior CHEAP CLoruine.—8.
