a * oe ' SATURDAY M sent we ROR PRESIDENT, : FOR VICE PRESIDENT. . ANDREW JOHNBON. ; 2 ELECTORS: * J. @. MeCanom,of El Dorado. ~ §. BRawnan, of San Francisco, _W. W. Rane, of Alameda. °' ~ W. OLrven, of Siskiyou. _ For Congress. _ : 7 First Distriet—D. C. MoRven. . Second *« = —Wm, Hicsy. Third © —JouN BIDWELL. For Bupervisor—Third District, WM. McDONALD, of Columbia Hill, ‘Wat A MixTure !—Taking the course of McClellan and the principles of the Democratic party as enunciated by the Chicago ‘Genvention, whe can reduce the chaotic mass of professions to order? Let-us glance . forw moment at some of the elements. of “which that party is composed and we may better account for ite many inconsistencies. First the smallest element are those who “elaim to be loyal Democrats; men who profess to advocate the overthrow of the rebellion and to be believe that this can be only actomplished through MeClellan.— . These nen-are overshadowed by the secession elewent in that party. The loyal ele~ ment is very small. Who are the leaders of thie MeClgilan party? By their works ye shell know them. Such avowed traitors as Vallandighain, Cox and the Woods are the men who controlled the Chicago Convention. Who are to advocate the election of McClellan in this State during the coming canvass? H. P. Barber, C. L. Wel. fT ler, Zack Montgomery, Street,Beriah Broy Dd. and others, all of whom hold the Calhdun view of the powers and limitations of the’ General Government. Hide it as you will under the uncertain and ambiguous letters vf McClellan, Mix the enunciations aos you will with the show ofloyalty. The fact that these men control the policy and the acta of the copperheads is enough to entitle every man who™bears the name of Demo. ~__ erat or advucntes the election of McClellan © tothe execration of every patriot. They are traitors, and tie party under their control will be used as an engine for the de» struction of the Government. The leaders of the Democratic party today hold-the ultra doctrine of State rights. ‘The natural result of such a doctrine is the disintegration and dissolution of the Union. A party ‘holding-that State sovereignty” is superior tu the sovereignty of the Union would never carry on a war to maintain-that Union. It ie the height of nonsense for Me Clellan to profess that he isin favor. of care rying on the war againet the rebellion to the lastextremity. To niaiutain the Union. at every hazard, when the leaders and spokeamen, and indeed the platiurm upon which he accepted the nomination, finds nu power in the Government to maintain: its supremacy over the revolted States. “Mow shall the war be vigorously prosecuted ifour armies are kept idle while we are fruitless. ly attempting to bring about pages by treaty’ with w power unwilling to accept any other terms than independence or an acknuwledgment of the right of secession. The old articlea of Confederation formed a better government than the Demvcrate would have ue believe exist in our present Constitution. How inconsistant js it far any man to claim that he is in favor of prosecuting the war for the Union and tu act with the Democratic party. The party: is composed of every shade of political sentiment, pledged to no single purpose buts suspension of hostilties and the suppression of all ultra views aad weasures, The inevit-ble-fesult of the elevation of that party te power, controlled ae it ia by ayowed Arends of the south, would be the independence of the South.— Would that end the wart Could the Norih and Sout judependent nations exiat in harmody on this continent? The desolation d tlued shed in the present war would be _ ata faint shadow of the terribly bloody fu. “ turebut a preface to the book. If that party should succeed in patehing up a com-! prow nite nd stopping the war without a defix ‘would be but a amothering of the fires which would burst forth after a few years iy — SEPT. Editor Transcript : In your paper of this morning I find an item tended, “A relic of. the Revolution,” afid is afl about an ‘antiquated looking watch with an old looking ‘ins\ to have been “presented to Gen’ George Washingten, by his many friends of Washington City, June Ist, 1776.” Now, when we come do take into consideration that the site of the city of Washington was not selected till 1791, and no city of that name having existed previously, it is pretty certain that the engraving on your Kevolutionary relic is bogus, and the time. piece never ticked in the ear of the Father of bis Country. 9s * «@ one It is true, as our correspondent says, that the site of the city of Washington was not selected until 1791, but the fouuding vf the town might have been retrospective so as to cover the case of this watele.) We understand that this same watch has “turned up” ®& number of times in this State, to the great relief of local reporters, for it invariably furnishes two good items. GLonious News—Bia Guys ror tHe Union.—The resent election in Vermont and the more recent one in Maine, shows gloriously forthe Union. The election in Maine resulted in an indorsement of Lincoln and Gront’s plan for putting down the rebel. . lion, by a majority of 30,000. All the Congressional Districts are ours, and both branches of the legislature overwhelmingly Union. The soldiers’ vote 1s not included, but they, by # Constitutional amendment, willbe permitted ta vete for President; UNrortunatTe Occunrence.—A Jittle daughter of Mr. Stevens, one of the proprietors of the San Lorenzo Hotel, in Santa Cruz, swallowed a twenty-five cent piece & few days since. It is probable, from sympreached the stomach, but haa lodged in the @aophagus. She has been taken to San Franciseo for surgical assistance. ~THEATRICAL.—An ex-elown of one of the Gtrcuses has leased the Maryeville theatre and proposes to ruo_it awhile, Lf he suo. ceeds in keeping it open any length of time he will excel any of hie trieks in the ring. A clown’s bustiies is to juke, but to run .a theater is no joke, » ALTITuDESs.—Recent measurements in Yosemite place the valley 4,060 feet above the sea, Lake Teniah is 8,327 feet absve the sea. The great sem'slome Tis-ea-ach is 6,000 feet above the Valley, or over 10,000 feet above the sea. : Gune In.—Hodges, one of the convicted stage robbers, wae escorted to the State: Priaon a day or two since, by Deputy Sheriff McVarnahan of El Dorado. He is to stay there twenty years, walls and Governors perinitting. . tin BLEACHING.—A French philosopher bas promulgated a new doctrine that the black race mnay be bleached out aa white as anybody by the habitual use of certain hinds of foed. — nena THe New York Tribune vaye: SA report reaches ua from Texas that.. Ww.H, CRAWFORD & co. Hardware Dealers. Nevada, Sept, lith. Greenbacks Again! A CARD has been published charging Me Lone & Co. with paying a bill of $64 25 in Greenbacka, but the author of the Card neglect ed to state that suit was breught against the Company), and as a consequence he was paid in Greenbacks, NO AGREEMENT was made to.pay the bill in GoLp Coin. Under similar eircumstarites we, as well as all sensible people, should expect them, especially from the LirtrLe GENTLEMAN. cLANE & CO, Nevada, Sept. 14th, 1864. The Greenback Question. Aves TO McLANE & COMPA.NY’S CARD —In regard to suit being brought, the facts are these :— For the past six teen months we have dunned Melane & Company for the small sum of $64 26. some of the firm i ing as the reason for not paying, that one of the Compaiy had failed to pay his Assessments and at the same time telling us that they would like to have us bring suit as by that means the one in arrears Would be obliged to pay up.— Another of the firm telling us if we would sue he would pay in coin—we py oe suit. ItLow seems the object was moreto have an EXCUSE for paying Greenbacks than from anv desire to make the delinquent up, thereby effecting a saving of about Two Dollars to each one of the Company, which afmount probably is considered of more een of ae te them than the name of be. lug honorable business men. w.
