LOCAL AFFAIRS,
Heavy Sale,
Ged. W. Kidd has sold his entire
interest, being 100 shates in the National Exchange Hotel bnilding to
Richard B. Gentry of this city.'The
whole number of shares in the building is-148. Being now owner of
two-thirds of one of the finest brick
hotels north of Sacramento, our
friend Gentry concluded he would
try his hand at keeping hotel, and
go made arrangements with Mr. N.

the Hotel,on Monday evening, whereby that. gentleman. withdraws, and
R. B. Gentry goes in as partner with
J. F. Carr.’ The change was made, aid our friend ‘‘Dick”. at once. assumed the duties of ‘‘mine host” of
the National: —~‘Fhe~-extensive and
favorable acquuintatice of Mr. Gentry with the people of Nevada coun~
ty and also in the State, will bea
means of making the hotel a popuJar place of—resort, while Mr. Carr
will see that the ‘‘inner man’’ of
the guests of the National shall not
want for any of the delicacies of the
market. Dick Gentry left*for the
Bay yesterday morning to make
purchases for additions to-the hotel.
The firm will be known as Carr &
Gentry.
J. J. Ott’s Assay Office.
We call attention to the advertise-’
ment of J. J,_O.t, in to-day’s Transorter. Owing to ill health, he has
not been able to attend to business
for several months, but having fully
recovered, he is now prepared te asgay and refine gold and ores of every description. . Sulphurets also
assayed. Mr. Ott established his
assay Office in 1853, in this city, and
from his thorough knowledge of the
business, he guarantees satisfaction.
His place of business,on Main street,
has been newly refitted and painted,
and those who need his services will
find him ready to transact promptly
all business entrusted to him,
Robbing a Money Drawer.
The money drawer.of L. Dreyfuss,
on Spribg street, was broken open
last week, and robbed of $35 or $40.
The drawer<was a patent one, with a
bell attachment. While the family
' were at supper, the thief crawled
through a side window, and tock out
the screws that held the drawer to
the counter, and thus abstracted the
money without making any noise. .

Gone East.
A. J. Patrick, Esq., of the North
San Jian Times, passed through
this city, yesterday, on his way to
Kansas. Patrick has made many
friends in this county since he has resided here, and they all wish him a
Pleasant trip. He intends to be absent six’ weeks. The ‘‘Times” must
pay pretty well to stand the expense
of its editor going on such a trip.

improving,
We understand that L. A. Walling,
father of J. M. Walling, our. worthy
County Recorder, who has been neriously.ill for some time, is getting
along finely. He has been improving in health for the past three days.
Supervisors.
The Board of Supervisors were
yesterday engaged in overhauling
road matters. We shall publish a
full report of their doings to-morrow.
The New Styles Have Arrived.
Several prairie schooners were
busy, yesterday, in unloading the
{ _ j/large stock of Fall and Winter Clothx ‘ing, selected by B. H. Miller, who
has just returned from San Francisco. His stock of Clothing, Furnishing Goods, ete., is of the latest styles
and really beautiful, and as large’as
itis choice. Gentlemen are invited
to call and ‘see the uew style suits,
which are being seld at the lowest
living rates. Mr. Miller has not forgotten the boys, either, for he has
purchased the largest stock of Youths
and Children’ 8 Clothing ever brought
to Nevada City.’ Everybody should

From the system that has been invigo-1
rated and regulated by & course of that
most benificent of all vegetable elixirs,
Hpstett-y’s Stomach . Bitters. Such, at
least, is the inference we are compelled to
draw from the testimony of thousands of
persang residing in unhealthy districts;whoattribute their escape from the epidemic
jn thé Sprirg and autumn solely to the
use of this great protective and prev@ntive
medicine. Many westcrn and southern
farmers and planters, as invariably as they
sow and plant in the spring, and reap and”
gather in the fall. administér it at those
seasons to their families and employes, and;
take it themeelyes from twice tqthree
tim:s a day. The demand for it in the fever and. ague districts "borderh g on the
Mississippi, Ohio and Arkansas Rivers is
iminense; and wherever the ngtural conditions are such as to generate intermittent
or remittent fevers, it is held in the highest
‘esteem, both as an antidote to the atmospheric virus which provokes them, and as
a swift and certain remedy for those dismtressing forms of disease. It is almost unnecessary to say that this renowned tonic
and renovatoris now generally accepted as
a standard specific for indigestion, biliousnes, nervous distemper, rheumrtism, physical weakness and mental despondency,
not only by the public at large, but by all
unpredudiced medical men. The vast popularity these Bitters has of course led to
many counterfeits and imitations, against
which the community are — to-be
on their guard.
