The Nevada Daily Transcript SO FRIDAY MOBMING, sigh SEPT. 18th The Great Race.—The great race be« tween the Nevada mare “Whitehall Maid,” aod the celebrated trotter ‘Honest Ance,” comes off uver the Glenbrook race course to-morrow afteruvon at 3 o’cléeck. This race promises to be one of the beat that has _ever taken place in th State. **Whiteliall Maid” is a beautiful looking mare and is said ‘tebe of great speed. ~onophendid reputation as a trotter, having trotted against “Flora Temple” at Kalamas zoo, Michiean, when she made the uoprecedented time of 2:199, and saved his distance. ‘The race is made-for $1,000 a side, mile heats, 3 bestin 5, to baruess to rale. Dan Denison, and James L: Eoff, two of the best drivers in Califernia, have taken the animals in charge and we may expect they willanake the best time possible, _ A band of music has ; been engaged to play while the horses are cooling off between the heats. The track insplendid couditwn, and we advise everybody to attend if they wish to witness a splendid race. as Our Citizens were aomew vhat bidtprie~ ed day befure yesterday, about 5 o'clock, P. M., on seeing a six~horse Concord coach, filled-with passengers, coming over the Virginia road to town.” It was not the heur for the arrival of the California Stage Co’s or McCue’s coaches, and the curious crowded around, and found no explanation for the mys~ tery iv the legend marked en the coach— ‘*Pioneer Line, Placerville.” -Ou enquiry it was learned that the coach contained the proprietors of the Placerville line, who nad come through from’ Virginia city to test the unanimous declarations of travelers that the Henvess Pass read was infinitely. superior to the Placerville route ; and to ascertain if they could not do better to leave their travel« er-deserted route and put their steck on the Henness road. We learn they were satisfied with the route and the prospects for business—though the California Stege Co. and the Nevada Line may be hard customers te buck against. With all the influence of the E UVaion, snd all the humbugging of the Placerville papers, has it come to this—that the Pioneer Line, in order to exercise their horses, are compelled to send them this way ?
