Preliminary organization waa effected by the election of A. A. Smith President and J, C. Boynton Secretary. After an address . by Rev. J. H. Chapin, the agent of the Commission, the Society was permanently organized by the election of the following officers: z President, A. A. Smith; Vice President, George Flint; Secretary, J. H. Inskip; and Mrs. A. L. Slack and Mrs. 8. H. Sheffieid collectors. At the first meeting thirtyeight persons joiued the Society—all in attendance but three. Only a few hours no-~ tice bad been given of the meeting, but the loyal people of the town are always ready ta give ahearty response te every eallamade wn behalf ofthe soldiers in the army.
