ew oe ee eee eo aa a Grass Valley Union‘ takes upthe refrain in theSecond Supervisor Dist#ict OF this) — Charleston, SQ It 48 ‘almoot as” TUESDAY, SEPT. 18, 1866. on Supervison ELECTION. — The of the old granny of the Alta, and claims a Johnson victory in the election of Dorsey county. After complimentary mention “of our success in presenting Johnson in his: trie ‘character in the TRANSCRIPT, the Union accases us of ignorance of the issue ora destre to make a little radical bulhcombe: . The Union concludes by saying; Local matters had nothing to do with the election, and we believe the Transcrirt knows this to be the case. The Union must certainly .be of short memory, for the morning after Bosworth’s nomination, that journal declared that the’ Convention was in the interests of the toll roads. This same chargé was reiterated inthe Dorsey Convention, ‘arid made the rallying ery against Bosworth during the eanvass. This, with other charges, did more to defeat Bosworth than any political questions. Notwithstanding the Union thade these charges, it hasthe assurance now to declare that there was no local is‘sue. That paper must be driven to the last extremity, when, for the sake of a little buncombe, it is compelled to “go back on” its own statements. Now to the political questions involved. The Union well knows that some of the ieading Conservatives of Grass Valley supported Bosworth, while many of the Unjon men didnot go near the polls, In the Convention a Democrat received eight votes to Bosworth's eleyen, and when a ‘delegate said that the former “did not belong to our party,” it was asked “what party?” and no satisfactory answer was ever given. We had nothing to say ‘in the fight because,we did not consider that the Union party was in it. We did not, know how Bosworth stood} and we knew that many Conservatives were anxious for his nomination.: ,Not only, was this the case, but he had served one term, made bitter enemies who worked hard for his defeat, while neithet’ he ‘nor ‘his: friends took much interest in ‘his eléetion, “In. Little York and also in.Rough and Ready, no interestavas: taken in the fight, the former township not being even represented inthe Convention.” If the Union man will again refer to ‘his files, he will find that’one of the delegates in this Convention, which he now claims to “have been Radical, had three sons during, the ‘war, to whom he gave the names of three rebel Generals! Itlis‘mot very probible that such a Conservative woald be caught in Radical company. It does seem surprising thateny man of ordinary comprehension, in the face of such facta, can claim ra a be Swidibiand, a plém, Arabia, Egypt, ete, des cs hebill dts’ of distinguished Union _. Generals, local views of Nevada and Grass . Valley, have been” witnessed by a large’ number of-our citizéns, who pronounce the-exhibition the ‘best of the kind ever exhibited in this.:city.~ By request of a number of our peeple who have not been able 4o' attend the Stereoscopticon, Mr. Vanhorn has consented toe give two more. exhibitions, this, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. As this will be the last opportunity our citizens. will have of seving these attractive paintings, we hope to. see ‘the Theatre well filled, and those who attend will not regret spending their money for so instructive and plepsing an exhibition, Prices of admission—adults 50 cents, children half price. ah ee ne cE Pp ren an en FLORENCE SEWING MACHINES. We invite the attention of our readers to the advertisement of the Florence Machine in this morning’s TRANSCRIPT. This” Machine is acknowledged to be the very best ever introduced. At nearly all of the State Fairs, the Florence has been \pronounced “the best and most improved Machine in use.” Tens of ‘thousands.of voluntary certificates have been sent to the Florence Company, praising their Machines in the highest terms. The American Institute, the leading one in the Uniq gold medal, which is sufficient to stamp it superior to all others. Any one wishing a first class Machine is invited to call on R. iA. Wovnp'nt ReckivE Him.—The City Couneil of, Baltimore refused to receive “Moses” Johnson, because he made his visit a “stumping tour.” Good for the MonumentalCity. : Tue President’s electioneering tour, saysthe Union, terminates disastrously.
