Our CanDiwaTe.—We to-day place at the head of our paper the name of Willian Higby for Congress. He ia the nominee of : the Union Convention of our District and were there ne other reason, the tact that-he received the nomivativn at the hands of ‘that bedy would be sufficient guarantee of his loyalty, integrity and ability. But Mr. Higby is not unknown to the people of this State, Hie course in the last session of Congress received the bearty commendation ot the last State Convention and the recent nomination shows that he is endoreed by the loyal men of the State. The entire ticket, Presidential, Congressional and County, of the Union pare of every leyal man to do his best to secure its success. The ticket throughout is all that loyal men can wish. The time to the election is short and the enemy we have to defeat is putting forth’ every effurt. Let Unien men go te work in earnest. Let Clubs be organized in every part of the county.— Let all animosities, enmities and bitter feeling be buried and all work for the one great object—the success of the entire Union ticket. Corvertion.—The . Congressional Convention of the Second District met immedi~ ately after the adjournment of the State Coovention. David Belden of this city, wae elected Chairman. _ Hon. Wa. Higby was nominated by acclamation amid great enthu« sitem. Speeches were made by Booth, Sare gent, Higby, Yule, Belden and Dudley and the Convention adjourned with cheers for the Union eausé, the Candidates, the Army AMOUNT CoLLectep.—Couaty Collector Davenport collected $2,247 00 during the month of August. Thisis smaller than the receipts of previous months for the reason -that pearly all the persunal property tax had been paid previous t» this month and the real property assessment roll has not been handed over to the Collector. The bulk of the taxes on real property will be paid in October, ; : THe Unton Crun.—The regular meeting of the Union Club will be held at the Baps tist Chureh to-morrow evening. The Union ticket has been made up and the Copperheads have nominated “Little Mac’ ter the Presdency. The campaign will now commence in earnest. Let every loyal man enrol himself with the Lincoln and Johnson Club and take an active part in the contest. Union ATTENTION Co '!—The members of the Light Guard are notified that the regular meeting aad drill of the Company will take place this evening. The Company will drill oa the street. If succersful, there will te extensive prospecting and working done in that district. Mr. Woodworth is rorking with an engtre. : Lance ExGine.—The foundation is being built st Ailison Ranch fer « new engine . . which is shortly to arrive for that company. The engine is 120 horse power, and is to be used for the purpose of pumping the water and hoisting the quartz from that lead. It is said to be the largest engine ever employ~ ed i the mountains.
