H. Mackie & Co. are agents for the Phoenix in this city. If you sre not insured, don’t rest till you hold a policy from this Company. MILITARY ENCAMPMENT.—We understand that an encampment of the military companies of Nevada and some of the adjoins} ing counties 16 talked of, for some time this Fall. It is proposed that the eompanies organize into a’battalion, elect their Major and gointoan encampment for ten. or. twelve’ days at. the. Glenbrook Race Course between this place and Grass Valley. We hope the plan proposed will be carried out. Such an encampment is worth more than a-year’s organization to'a company. No.better ground than the one proposed can be found in this State. There is ample room for the encampmént of a regiment, ‘and a splendid ground for the evolutions. Let us have the en~ campment. : THe DEDICATION.—The colored people’s ‘church was dedicated in this city on Sunday Yast. The dedication services were conduicted by Rev. J. B Hi the M. B. Charch and the sermon, an @ hone, preached by Rey. T. D. M. Wards P. E. of the A, M. E. Church. Aftep fie sermon a collecs tion was taken ap'to pay the debts, and ‘about $350 was raiaed. The fire took place soun after noon and itis supposed to have originated from the fire place. The occupants lost titir provisions, bedding and clothing. MINING AT BLUE Tent.—In anticipation of an aqueous winter, the miners in the vicinity of Blue Tent are making exteiisive preparations for working the wines. Should the season be favorable, not a single claim will be unworked in that neighborhood. THE Potosi.—Wilham Thomas & Co., owners of the Potosi lead, located on Gold Flat, near Weeks’ mill, got up steam un Sat. urday last. They have an incline down upon the lead 140. feet. The lead 1s two feet thick, and their last crushing paid $40 t the ton. 4 n ——— re LEASE ExrirepD.—Weeks’_ terra of lease expired in August, and the owners of the mill and mine—San Francisco men—are having the water kept out ofthe diggings. We understand work will soon be commenced again. It is anexcellent mine, and will give employment to a large number of men. More. So_piers.—Sergeant” Ridley started for San Francisco yesterday morning with seven recruite in charge. {Thies makes thirtystwo that have volunteered from this county within three monthe. SPLENDID GraPes.—We saw yesterday, some of the finest grapes brought to our ‘ market this season, at the markets of Peran, on Commercial street, and Briggs, on Broad street. We feel it ourduty to let the public know of this that they may know who the parties are who avail themselves of thischeap but unjust mode of paying their honest debts” W.H. CRAWFORD & CO. Hardware Dealers. Nevada, Sept, 11th. Greenbacks Agovin! CARD has been published charging Me Liane & Co with paying a bill of $64 25 in Greenbacks, but the author of the Card neglect ed to state that suit was breught against the Compan), and as a consequence he was paid: in Greenbacks. NO AGREEMENT was. made to pay the bill in Gotp Coin. Under similar eircumstances we, as well as all sensible pcople, should expect them, especially from the LITTLE GENTLEMAN. McLANE & CO, Nevada, Sept. 14th, 1864. The Greenback Question. NSWER TO McLANE & COMPANY°’S CARD —In regarc to suit being brought, the facts are these :—For the past six teen months we have dunned McLane & Company for the small sum of $64 25. some of the firm giving as the reason for not paying, that one of the Company had failed to pay his Assessments and at the same time telling us that they would like to have us bring suit as by that means the one in arrears Would be obliged to pay up.— Another of the firm telling us if we would sue he would pay in coin—we brought suit. It Low seems the object was moreto have an EXCUSE for paying Greenbacks than from anv desire to 5 make the delinquent pay up, thereby effecting, a saving of About Two Dollars to each one of th Company, which amount probably is eonsider of more importance te. them than the name of being honorable business men. .
