ok 1G ods, City. ISCO ! gains offered are bases ent cheap neixeo! ‘TT will save * rotien. HAL, . Clothier, .o Btreets2 The Daily Transerips NEVADA CITY, GCA. oi Cn iain dlikaies LOCAL AFFAIRS. Mining etc., in Eureka, A correspondent writing us: from Erieville, under Hate of September 13th, says that quartz mining and prospecting runs at fever heat in this district. New claims are discovered * and baptized, so also are new towns. Capital and perseverance is the forergnner of towns and population: ' The Erie mine is by far the most extensive and the richest in the district, and I opine it will cope favorably with the best .in the’ county. —This mine is—undergoing a thorough renewal of allits -‘machinery—new ‘pumps, new engines, new hoisting works, etc. The prospect is splen. did. Its third level is complete, the main shaft prospected all the way, and in sinking an-air and timber shaft 200 feet morth of it, there has been a rich discovery made, being no less than a’ splendid ledge, the principal part of the rock being lined with free gold. I don’t know the size‘df the ledge. Under the able and judicious managenient of Messrs. Holland & Ryder, this mine is destined to’ make a record in Nevada eounty. They are ready to start drifts from their main shafts to develop the 300 foot level. ‘There are between fifty and sixty men employedin the miné, Thesuperintendent is busy preparing for the coming Winter, laying up stores ‘ef cord wood, round and square timbers, ete. By appearance this place has stability unknown in ‘other mining localities. Tha citizens have petitioned the Board of Supervisors to grant them a precinct at the ensuing Presidential election. I believe it should bé granted, as there ure between 45 and 50 voters residents of this place, aud quite a .nuniber of seattering votes: outside that I believe will be foréed to come to this place by the new law as living within the precinct. The precinct should also be established because there is a prospect of its permanency. : . They have struck the ledge at the Ancho. It is about six feet wide; but the owners are not content with this, and are still running in hopes of finding another, although the one discovered prospects well. The Rhode Island lode is. a splendid thing. It was disvevered by John Quincy Babb, and it prornises to be u fortune to those interested in Th, The claims are located 124 miles from Graniteville. The Rising Star or Grizzly mine is apmyitie one, and the owners are working a number of men. Gaston Ridge promises fortunes to all those interested, both in quartz and gravel. o MBore’s are yielding Big Mining. The hydraulic claims at and Woolsey’s Flats splendidly this season. The Boston claims at “Woolsey’s has yielded $30,080 this season, and to this it is expected $7,000 will be aided by the clean up this week. The last run of the Eagle Co. give $8,000. pam as Bh The Illinois, at Moore’s, paid $8,000 for their run which ended last week, The Blue Banks Co., at Woolsey’s Fat.is paying well, and the Oriental Co.'at the same place in their last Tun took out $6,000 at an expense of $2,000. This is certainly encouraging to the miners of that locality, aud indicates that the gravel channels are still rich in gold. A Brutal Act. On Thursday afternoon some perfon inflicted a terrible wound on a ow belongmig to G, SS. Getchell. She was struck with an ax or hatchet bon the shoulder, and the flesh laid Pen to the shoulder blade, the There is no exense for such brutality nd.as the same party had a valuable ow poisoned some time ago, it is urmised that this last brutal act is esigned to get even withthe owner Yuntilating his animals: . Whatver may have: been the motive it 1s tainly, a. cowardly and inhuman hing to inflict such wounds upon uumals, Tur Los Angeles News is the first nd only paper in Califoraia; that 48 hoisted the name of O’Conor for resident. eam Have moved their immense stock dry goods to their new store on broad street, tf ound being several inches in length. . : Take Notice. 3 _ Potter & Sigourney sells Mason's Fruit Jars for $2 25 per dozen, and Crockery and Glass ware lower than any house in Neveda county. . al-tf suit Jars, etc. Fruit Jars, Fruit Cans, ’ and Sealing Wax for sale by W. Many western and southern farmers and ‘planters, as invaribly as they sow aid plant inthe spring and reap and gather in the. faN, administer it at those seasons to. their families and employes, aud take it themselves from. twice ‘to three times a day. Thedemand for it. in the fever and ague districts. bordering on the Mississippi, Ohio and Arkansas Rivers is immense; and wherever the natiiral conditions are such togenerate intermittent or remittent fevers, it is heldin the highest esteem, both as an antidote to the stinospheric virus. which provokes them; and “ao. swift and_certain remedy for those distressing forms of disease. Itis almost unnecessary to say that this renowned tonic and renovator is now generally accepted as a standard specific for indigestion, Diliousness, nervous distemper, rheumatism, physical weakness and mental despondency, not only the public -at large, but by all unprejudiced medical men. The vast popularity of the Bitters has of course led to many counterfeits and imitations, against which the community are requested to be on their guard. > SR TENT SC 5 TET CANDIES ! CANDIES .
