A Sad Case,

The Auburn Argus says of D. Nt
Heaton, a cattle driver who last
week shot , oe accidentally at
Bowman's dai, and died at Emigrant Gapacouple of days later:
Mr. Heaton was married about a
year and a half ago toa young lady
of Oakland. One very sad feature
of the case is that none of his relatives were with him when he passed
away. His wife had gone off ona
¢eamping exctrsion about the time of
his departure from Folsom, (which
place had become their home recently), and up to latest accounts her

theroad above Bowman’s Dam, he
observed some quail in a tempting
position, and stopping his_ horse
stood up in the buggy to fire at them.
The report of the gun caused the
‘horsé to jump forward suddesly.
The postmaster lost his equilibrium,
and was thrown to the ground over
the back of the seat, striking on his
right shoulder. Fortunately no
bones were broken, but he received
a painful shock. The -ho:se stopped
alnYost 4s soon as he fell. He bath—
that was in a bottle on the seat, and
remounting the vehicle drove to
Bswman’s camp, where ‘he ’was laid
fuptill Friday, by which time he
-was sufficiently recvoveretl to drive
home. He still suffers: consider bl,
from the effects of the fall, being un“History of Nevada.
The Carson Appeal says: ‘‘Messrs. Thompson and West are just
getting thinge in shape for the -pub
lication of their History of Nevada,
of which mention has already been
made in these co utnns. They have,
just-sueceeded in-securing— the services of Col. H. G. Shaw, a wellknown journalist of San Francisco,
who will write the biographical
