' SUNDAY, SEPT. 21, 1884.
Will Write for the ‘‘Transcript.’’
Prof. A. C. Harris, teacher of the
High School at this city, has for a
number of years been connected with
various newspapers in the East as a
writer, part of the time following
that line of business regularly. The
TRANSCRIPT, recognizing that there
is no subject more interesting to the
general public than that of education, and none that should be more
thoroughly understood, has engaged
Mr, Harris to write for it from
week to week asecries of articles relating thereto. He has also been
employed todo general ‘reportial
work for this paper whenever he has
at his disposal, outside of his duties
as a teacher, the time for so doing.
We feel satisfied that his contributions will be of a character to~add
materially to the interest of the paper. Mr. Harris’s introductory on
the subject of education will appear
next Saturday.
New Mining Incorporation.
There have been filed with the
County Clerk articles of incorporation of the Texas Gold: and Silver
Mining Company. The Trustees are
Geo. E, Turner, Edwin Tilley, H.C. Hieats, J. T. Morgan, and 0,
Maltman. The capital stock is
$500,000, divided into 100,000 shares,
The Company will at once proceed
to erect, new hoisting works on its
property (the Wilson Ranch mine in
‘Willow Valley) and sink toa depth
of 100 feet when drifting will begin.
Owing to the lateness of the season
the building ofa mill is to be postponed till next Spring, when a large
one will be put up. The ledge has
been well prospected and the indications are that one of the best mines
in the district will be opened there.
Did Not Steal Them,
The charge of petit larceny against
Wm. Montgomery has been dismiss' ed without trial, He found some
school books on the sidewalk and
took them to a friend whose son car. .
ried them to the schoolhouse and
turned them over to the pupil ‘to
whom they belonged, All the circumstances go to show that Billy
had no intention of committing a
theft.
Crowding the Mourners,
The Appeal of Thursday says:
Last Monday the Sheriff arrested
Michael Horan and James Devers
on warrants charging them with
working the Golden Gate Claim in
violation of the injunction issued
from the SSuperior Court. They
gave bonds in the sum of $200 each
for their appearance on the 27th
inat.

realized,
A recent competitive tests made with the Frue at the Carlisle mine,
showed an advantage of 30 per cent. in favor of the Duncan. The amount saved over the
Frue being sufficient to pay the entire cost of the machiues nearly every month of the
year.
& The following is an‘enumeration of its many advantages over all other similar machines:
1. Its cost is not more than half that of any other of equal capacity, and the weight is
nearly 1,000 pounds less, thus greatly reduciag the cost of transportation.
2. The expense of setting up in running order is not more than one-third that of the
Frue, or any other belt machine, much less Simp and timber work being necessary.
8. The expenditure for repair is not more than one-fifth that of any other belt machine,
and they will last.fully three times as long, work ing under the samé conditions.
4. Not mote than one-half the space is required —a point of great importance where a
considerable number are used,
j
5. No special skill and very little care is necessary to open it.
6. Nomore water is required than is furnished by the batteries,
7. It savesall the amalgam, gold ur silver, that escapes the batteries, pans or settlers,
ITS INVALUABLE FEATURE, and claimed by noother, making the machine worth
more than it costs tor this purpose alone
8. Amuch coarser
—® great advantage
the mineral.
9. It has no small and delicate mechanism, requiring nice adjustment and the closest
attention —aninsuperable objection to all belt and other forms of machines, making them
wholly unfit for the rough service of a quartz mill,
10. Great simplicity of construction and small number of wearing parts. The whole machine is comprised in seventeen pieces, only three of which are su bject to any especial
wear, and these can be replaced ata nominal cost. The Frue hag’ 113 pieces, aud some
similar machines many more, making a complication of parts that involves constant repair and great ma Hp in this*way, as well as in loss of time,
We areaware that the most, sweeping and pretentious claims are
concentrator in the market, but it isa well-known fact that the resu
have not in any instance made good these claims, The advanta,
