LOCAL AFFATRS.
‘The Japanese Troupe.
/ Thed apanese troupe of performers,
numbering thirteen, will be in this
_city on next Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The troupe has been
performing in Sacramento during the
State Fair, and has been a great attraction. The Union says: ‘The
truly rémarkable feats of the Yeddo
troupe of Japan are deservedly receiving liberal patronage. Their
-matinee and evening performances
are always crowded.””Among-their
performers. aretight and slack
rope walkers, jugglers, balancers,-J
" gymnasjs, top spinners, and magiily gah the great sleight
of hand performer, and his six juvenile pupils are alone worth the price
of admission to see. This troupe
drew_crowds in San Francisco, and
everywhere they have perfomed.
The Camp Meeting.
Vthe camp meeting commenced at
the picnic ground yesterday, at 11
o'clock. The ground is one of the
best in the county and has been fitted up in excellent slyle for fhe accommodation of those who attend.
Hamilton has a large boarding tent
on the ground and meals are furnished at reasonable rates. The services
will be held every day as follows:
Prayer meetings at 9 o’clock, preach-.
ing ati 4. 3t.;-and at 3and 7% p.m.
Stages will leave this city every dav
in time for each service, and will return with passengers who desire to
come back after service. On Sunday,
in addition to the usnal exercises,
Quarterly Meeting of the Nevada
station will be held. Those who desire to remain upon the eamp ground
can obtain accommodations at reasonable rates. There will probably
“bea very large attendance from Nevada, Grass Valley and other parts of
the county on Sunday.
The Cunningham Mine.
J About four months ago a company,
of practical miners took a lease of .
‘the old Cunningham mine, which
had been idle for several years.—
They have since ran a tunnel and
struck the ledge, flnding first rate
looking rock. They are now taking
out quartz, which they are having
worked at the Marchie mill on Deer
creek,
Episcopal Sewlng Society. ~
Jihe Episcopal Sewing Society will
meet at the residence of Mrs. E. P.
Marselus, this evening at 7 o'clock.
Dogs.—The Grass Valley Union
hath the following: What an inestimable blessing Noah would have
conferred upon Grass Valley, if he
refused to receive dogs into the Ark.
‘We won’t exaggerate—we are not
given to that kind of intellectual exercise—but if we should gay there
were one thousand good-for-nothing,
mean-looking, spindle-shanked, longnosed, long-tailed cusses in the form
of dogs knocking loose around town,
itis likely we should be taken to
task for making too low an estimate.
It was our luck yesterd ay to get into
the midst of a dog fight—fifteen of
them without counting ourselves in—
Of all sizes from a two bit bag of tobaceo up to a'young calf, and not
one of the lot fit even for sausage
meat. If some of our sausage manufacturers of the Bay City, who are
teputed as not as fastidious as our
folks, would send a collecting agent
to this section of the country, we
would undertake to furnish in the
shortest space of time amonth’s supPly for use in their line of business.
. Som of the best men of the Relican are supporting me.—
lorem Reto nPPorting
Yes, they must be sweet scented
Republicans to support such a vile
and infamous traitor as you are.
is not one drop of patriotism
in their hearts if they support you.
We believe the charge ia lie, uttered
enly for the purpose of deceiving the
men of-the State.
Goon news come to usfrom Siam,
in spite of the hard things that have
‘been said of the King of that country.
Whether instigated to such a course.
by the example of the barbarians of
the West or not, the monarch has reSolved to set free all the slaves io his
Tealms. The perpetual abolition of
of slavery will therefore take place
on the first of January, 1872.

Imfluoneg offemperatureon
Perature of night tmd day is greater than at
any other time of the year. , In the early autumn the quicksilver sometimes arises is
high as in the most fervid summer weather;
while at night it often sinks to an almost
wintry point. Thé human body not being
made of steel or India rubber, sensibly feels
these tremendous changes. To fortify the
system against them, a genuine tonic is required; and the public has long since discovered that among this discription of
medicines Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters is infinitely the best, It gently quickens the cir.
culation, regulates the bowels, tones the liver, braces the nerves, and thus puts the
whole physique on its defense against the
vicissitudes of temperature in our climate.
Few, if any cases of epidemic fever are
heard of in localities where it is in common
use. As it becomes more and’more widely
known, and the demand for it increases,
. chills and fever, and the bilious remittant
seem to recede before it, and if it ever
should come into tiniversal use, these diseases would cease to be known as the
scources of our low lying and marshy dis-,
tricts. That homely bit of proverbial phicure,” should be especially borne in mind
in the autumn months; and indeed in all
Seasons, together with the fact that among
all the preventives of malarious disease,
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters isthe most safe
and petent. ‘
Be certain, however; to obtain the genuine article, as countless imitations of a pernicious character are abroad. See that the
externals are all right, and remember that
Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters is sold in bottles alone. .
