Francais,
The new iron curtain of the Theatre
Francais is a gigantic affair. . It neither
rolls up nor folds together, but ascends in
a solid shett into the upper regions,
which have had to be heightened to
“make room for it. The ascent occupies
} a minute and a quartér. It appears, too,
that the new drop-scene, with its colon_nade and busts, is not an ordinary rolling
eanyass, but is glued to the iron curtain.
. This gluing was a work of no small difficulty, being probably the “targest order’’
ever attempied jin the way of affichage,
The other strictnral alterations at the
Theatre Francais have involved a sacrifice of seating space to the value of more

A Dress Made of Thread.
A young lady of Austin, who has much
time to spare and who is very ¢killful
with the needle, and excels in all fancy
crochet, work has made a unique dress.
The material is common spoul ibfead,
white, and the entire dress is €ign'lerocheted work, beautifully flower nd
strongly made, and about 10,000 yards ot
thread were used in its construction. °
The sleeves are crocheted in the proper
shape, and are fastened in by a lockergcheted stich. It is avery beautiful
dress, and the young lady tells us that it
took her three months to complete it.
