‘She Figures.
The original Assessment Roll being’
completed, a comparison of the figures .
with-last year will be interesting. The
tax last year was $1.90 on each $100,the
rates for the State and county being
equal, or 95 cents on each $100, ‘The
footings are as follows: ee

Total .cesseessceescees $0,126,865 35
The real estate this year shows an
increase of $127,716 80, while the per
sonal property shows a falling off of
$475,829 45, which may be -accounted
‘for by the non-assessment of mortgages.
It is probable that had the last -Legisjature not passed a law exempting
mortgages from taxation, the increase
of personal property would be proportionate. to-the value of:real estate.
But there is another view of these
figures, Last year the State and county proportion of the tax was equal, but

As the shares are equal, and the entire dog-tax goes tothe county, there
seems to be no reason why. the State
should have so. much more of the money. The tax this. year is: as follows:

There seems by thisto bea falling

while the smount of taxes to be paid in
the aggregate is about the same.

A Cha pter of Facts,
Space is valuable in a newspaper, and it is
therefore proposed in this advertisement to
condense a variety of facts, important to the

celebrated medicine is, and what it willido.
In the first. place then, the article is a etimulant, tonic-and alterative, consisting ofa combination-of an absolutely pure spirituous
agent with the most-valuable medicinal vegetable substances that Botanic research has
placed at the disposal of the chemist and the
physician. These ingredients are compounded with-great.care, and in such proportions as
to produce a preparation which invigorates
without exciting the gentral system, and:
